Hi there...new to the site. Great info on here! Love it!!

I recently noticed when I shift my AT into reverse, there this awful noise, that I don't think I used to hear when I shifted into reverse. I'll have to listen to see if it happens when I shift from reverse to drive. I've been searching the internet for info on how to check the fluid level. (I had a Honda Prelude before & worked on it myself, so I'm somewhat familiar with looking under the hood) Any help would be great!!! Thanks!!!

WELCOME to NICO!

Checking the trans fluid is really easy... You need to check it hot to get an accurate reading.... I assume you know where the dipstick is so I wont insult your intelligence.... ITs just like checking the oil, except you need to check it when the engine is RUNNING in park...

What about checking the level for a manual?

you cant really check the level for the manual (no dipstick)... Technically you're supposed to just refill the trans fluid and fill until it comes out of the fill hole... So if you wanted you could take the plug off the fill hole and make sure the level is up to that level.

Thanks! It took a little while to find. Nissan sure doesn't make it easy to work on this car. I can't believe they have the trans fluid dip stick bolted!!?? Is there a seperate fill hole?? I didn't see one...

Sorry to sound like such a chick, but working on the Prelude was much easier. I'll be going to the Nissan dealer to get some trans fluid now...

Welcome to NICO! Needs to see some pics of the car!

I'd guess it's bolted in so people don't do stupid things with the car. Was the fluid low after all?

Yep...checked it with the engine running, and just the bottom tip of the dip stick had any fluid on it...

Haven't done any upgrade or mods to the car. It's a stock '05 lakeshore slate coupe.

yeah they are bolted down...10mm....and some of them dont even come with a dipstick althought it looks like one. but you are probably about half a court low. you need matic J fluid ONLY!!! anything else will damage the transmission! and yes fill it through the dipstick hole. make sure the transmission is a little warm and car is running in park.

no way man, what are ya thinkin? you have ur R6

car sounds better now that i added the ATF...the fluid level is at the 1/2 way mark of where the cross-hatches are on the dip stick. didn't want to overfill the thing...

Yes I would like a Part Number for the Auto transmission dip stick.

I asked the local Infinity dealer for one and the reply was "Just bring the car in here and we will check it for ya"

Hummmmm, if I wanted to drive 40 minutes for Infinity to check it then why did I bother asking them for a dip stick!!! Frustrated, I just walked. At least at this site we get a litle TLC with our problems and concerns.

3 cheers for this forum and the assistance we get.
