Well, I'm on my way to checkout an '85 Maxima (4 door - autotragic) in a while. I have a basic idea of where to check for rust and oil leakage. I'm just wondering how fun these things can be and what swap options are available for this chassis. I know nothing about FWD configs, but this could potentially be a fun build... assuming there's available options.

Anyone?

Well, I definitely took a look at it. The body was free of rust, except for one minor surface rust blemish on the door. It looked pretty clean, but the inside lip of the 2 fenderwells had rusted away. Oh well, that's almost to be expect for a 21 year old MinneSNOWta car.

Everyone else on the vehicle functioned. The AC blew hard, but it was warm. The car wasn't running, so I'm not sure if it needs a charge or just needs to run. It leaks a little oil from what's believed to be the valve cover, and it needs struts and rotors/brake pads. There's also a noisy belt, but even my S13 pertains that great feature.

Best part was... I paid $170! I'll also have pics in about 1 week.

Sweet. Very cool to see someone giving an old 2nd gen some love.

Swap options aren't quite as wide and simple as with 240s. There's really no easy swap for those cars. No matter what you choose, it's going to take some serious work.

2nd gen ('85-'88) and 3rd gen ('89-'94) are very similar as far as power/drive train. Same motor, same trans.

Is it a wagon? (I friggin' love 2nd gen wagons.)

Unfortunately, it's just a 4 door. I hear even swapping the Z31 turbo setup into it can be a really pita. Either way, this is going to be a nice break from my 240.

I absolutely LOVE the way 2nd gens look. I'm all about the brick front end. haha

Oh, and it also has the digital instrument cluster.

Nice, I just pick up a 85 myself, being from MN I know what older cars look like there luckly I'm in PA at the moment and found mine in MD. It has one tiny rust spot other then that it is super clean. We don't get much for aftermarket parts but there is a few things you can do like intake and exsust and maybe a 5sp swap. I have a FSM that came with the car so if you need some help with something let me know.
