My transmission sounds like chewbacca. Its the throwout bearing going out. Correct?

When does it make the noise? Clutch in or out or all the time?

throw out bearing going out can cause that noise with the clutch in or out.

the throw out bearing will not make the noise when it is released. Does it happen all the time or only when you first drive it from cold start ups.

I find it amuseing when you say it sounds like"chewbacca" That very accuratly describes in my mind what a worn pilot bushing would sound like. But When a pilot bushing goes out it tends to only make the noise during the first few clutch applications weather or not the clutch is pressed in. But fades away as the car warms up.

The way I read you last post it happens all the time when pushing the clutch in and not when the clutch pedal is fully released?

yep happens whenever you push in the clutch. Sometimes it goes away when its warm sometimes it stays. Here is the thing though. When chewbacca goes off, it feels like i can't press the clutch all the way in.

I am really leaning toward the pilot bushing then. The reason is , if it were the T/O bearing it wouldnt just go away , sam holds true for trans internal bearings.

thats the thing. It is all the time. Whenever i press in the clutch and press some gas like your suppose to it chewbacca's on me. You still think its a pilot?

yea, It really doesnt matter though If your gonna go int there to replace anything the right thing to do is do a kit, Clutch disk, pressure plate,T/O bearing, and pilot bushing.

i just did a search on a pilot bearing and throwout bearing and the pilot bearing is only $15... and the throwout bearing was only $50....

Time to see how much it would cost to get them replaced. The parts aren't expensive at all..

Those 2 arent but the disc and pressure plate are a bit more. The kit with all 4 parts is cheaper though then buying them indiviually is what I was trying to say. I wasent trying to say it was going to break the bank or anything.
