I've seen quite a few posts about oil consumption. Here's one about checking oil.

I actually feel pretty dumb even asking this, but has anyone had trouble reading the dipstick on their 2003 G35. I've been doing this (checking and changing my oil) ever since I could drive (@ 20 years), but the dip on my G seems to come out pretty sloppy, which makes it difficult to get an accurate read. I've been trying to keep an eye on it due to the typical G consumption issue. Need some solid advice.

Thanks, CP

I think you have a great question! I feel the same way I have a 03 it seems like a guessing game. Look forward to seeing if anyone has some advice.

i could not agree with you more, there is no way you can get an accurate read. That stick is some freaking flimsy, putting it back in sucks too.

maybe i should put some lube on the stick, some engine oil or something

Location is bad.I assume you guys are looking at both sides of the dipstick???Sometimes it takes me a couple tries to get a good reading too.

Yep, location is bad, terrible if you have a pop charger. It never gives a decent reading. I just try again and again, and eventually get a decent reading.

I'm not familar with the 03's but on my 06 I try to check my oil after the car has been in the garage all night. If you check during the day, let the vehicle sit for 15 to 20 minutes after use. The oil in the dip stick hole will drain allowing you to get an accurate reading. If you add a 1/2 qt or so, you'll have to wait again because some of the oil you just added is in the dip stick tube and it takes another 15- 20 minutes for the oil to drain out of the tube. Its a real pain in the *** but after over 47k miles I have a pretty good idea of how much oil to add from reading the dip stick.

I can't wait till I get my new GT-R! The stick is on the front out in the open...and looks super easy to access!

....oh wait! I'm poor damn it! I guess I'll have to stick with the flimsy/floppy/poorly designed G35 stick...
