The scan tool will read the SR ECU if whoever did your wiring hooked up the RX TX and other wire to the dash wiring. Just about nobody hooks these wires up so chances are the dealership will not be able to scan the ECU.

If you have an S13 SR the ECU you can run your own codes, turn the key to the on position and rotate the screw on the ecu to the direction opposite of when the LED stays on. It should start to flash codes. Fix the problems and start the car. Turn it off and check for codes again. It should read a code 55 when everything has been fixed.

no the car cannot be running to check for codes to check for any codes on your ecu turn your key on..this is the second position the one before you turn the key to crank the engine over.

turn the screw fully clockwise and hold for atleast 2 seconds ( the screw is on the back of your ecu, the side opposite of the blue plug.)

after you turn it fully clockwise and hold for atleast 2 seconds you have to turn it back fully counterclockwise and you will see a series of flashes.

there are two sets of flashes..the first set will have somewhat long pauses in between each flash, the second set has very quick pauses in between each flash.

you take the number of flashes from the first set (say 3) and the number of flashes from the second set (say 4) and put them together..34..that will be your code.

by the way the light is right next to the screw and also when you turn your key on the light will come on and stay on..when you start your engine it should go off..if it doesnt you have a bad computer itself and that would be your problem
