Hey...project KAT is just about underway, I took the header off, the intake, all of the splash guards, the pan comes off tomorrow, and the turbo kit comes tomorrow....

But, I never thought of this before, but because the brake booster runs under vacuum from the intake manifold, once the engine is turbocharged and the manifold is at a significantly higher pressure than it would be naturally aspirated, then obviously the vacuum would be affected and the brake booster wouldn't function as normally. My question is, how many of you are running check valves for the brake booster to prevent adverse effects when you turbocharged your engine? Where do you get these/how much are they? What do all the major kits like NSPORT and FMAX use to prevent the brake booster from going haywire? If no one IS using a check valve, then how do your brakes work when the engine is turbocharged as opposed to when it was n/a? I have ABS, it's a 95 240sx...Orion, WDRacing, DaveEEE?

Thanks!Marc

They are already there from the factory. It's the small little cylinder just above the brake booster(at about it's center point) in the vacuum line.

Thanks guys..hey, how did you all extend the lines that are attached to the stock intake tube right near the throttle body (one is small OD, one is big OD) not sure of their names, but I know I need to extend them allll the way to the right side of my engine bay once it's turbocharged.I'll keep you all updated! I kinda feel like **** now though, because I have a fever of 104...

The big one is for the IACV - Idle Air Control Valve. The feed for it can remain right near the TB - It can see boost...

The smaller of the 2 runs to emmisions equipment - I forget which sensor, I removed mine and reccomend you do the same.

There will also be a tiny vacuum hose on the bottom of the intake pipe that runs to a nipple on the base of the TB - Again, it's emmsions related, you should ditch it.

So all you really need to worry about is having a 1/2"-5/8" nipple on the intercooler cold pipe to connect to the IACV...

Be sure to run the valve cover breather to a connection BEFORE the turbo, though - You should NEVER pressurize your valve cover. You can aso use a small filter here...

Sorry to hijack the thread but it seems the first question was answered. What about the PCV valve? My mechanic says it should also be routed to the intake side of the comp so it doesn't see boost, something to do with the fact that this also would inject boosted air to the engine... unfortunately the FSM doesn't go into much detail about the PCV valve.

I don't think it really matters. As soon as you take your foot off of the gas (I assume thay you aren't flooring it when braking) the intake plenum will have good vacuum.

Though, I wasn't directly asked. Perhaps I should delete my response. hehe

Wait wait...I aint on no cool email list....

huguetpj, you can simply have the PCV run into a catch can or breather filter. No need to have it run to the intake at all.

Damn....I remember those days...and I remember Chano Kim??? I believe it is. You, Alex Chang, and TY Yap were responsible for flooding my inbox on a daily basis. And I thank you for it. I didn't post much on that list because I was learning and having 80+ e-mails force fed to you daily really made you learn quick.

Well the list is still around but not nearly as active. Everyone is dispersed throughout the various forums and e-mail groups. I've run into several of old list members in other forums and lists as well. The E-Manage yahoogroup for one. The world gets smaller the longer I live.
