Check this out (2010 updates)

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I like to consider myself an Infiniti enthusiast in addition to being a technician. I am in a position to see the new models, not the one off pre production models but the ones that are hot off the delivery truck. It is not that grand of a rollout as they arrive on our lot covered in tape and plastic. Getting to see some of the new technology items is one of those things the techies usually look forward to.

So my dealer received our first 2010 EX today. This was an interesting model, light silver in color with the 18" wheels used on the previous years. From the exterior there appears to be no visible differences. The interior appointments are still the same but the center stack looks a little more refined. One thing that immediately stuck out was the lack of a CF drive, and when looking into the Settings menu I was intrigued to find an option for software update? What are they planning? Did they realize the software coupon idea was not working well?

The only feature of note that warranted photographing was the updated user interface and options available from the center display screen and hvac controls. The radio default screen is very similar to Lexus and Acura now with colorful images of Satellites and station logos of the station when using XM. XM also adds weather report, actually very detailed and searchable weather reporting options. I was very impressed to see (when stopped) you could see a three day forecast for the DC metro area but also quickly access the weather at your destination point (if a destination is set into the Nav) or several other options are available with a search option. One of the things I am really happy to see is a removal of the iPod proprietary port, especially since this port did not work with the newest iPods. The replacement is a usb terminal which supports common audio sources and inputs. From some of the reading I have done about the options include Bluetooth streaming audio capabilities, which I use all the time with Pandora in my car and it is the best audio option in my opinion and if your cell phone plan includes a unlimited data, there is something about streaming audio from the internet while driving that makes the geeky little kid in my smile. damn rain The new EX will also have the IonCluster system used in the G37 convertible and FX50. With that should come the Grapeseed Propylene odor reducing in cabin filter and some variation of the frontal emission sensor they are putting on new models. It seems that the options they have changed are not interchangable among other model years. The exception to that would be the Grapeseed micro filter. The electronic features are far to expensive in these cars to be rationally interchangeable. In order to get the smallest of change, say the screen design of one of the above pictures, you would have to replace the entire control unit. In the near future the interface will be adjustable through direct interface,I bet they will make an App for that.

in your opinion, is the 2010 ex better than the 2009? i am still contemplating whether to buy a remaining 09 or the 2010 from my dealer. they obviously charge more for the 2010 w/ similar options/pkg but im not sure if it's worth the extra.

Not without a new $4000 unit

The 09 is great, but the 2010 Gets lots of wonderful new stuff. Wait about 4 weeks for the 2010 models to get sales before the new year starts. If you can get a few grand off, go for it.

Thanks for the info and I'm sure I speak for all of us (or at least most) that we really appreciate having some one "on the inside" to give us updates let alone being great technical support!! I have question per the new updated system. From your pics the new displays still uses the same screen, same hard buttons etc, but your saying you don't think they'll update our software to update to this new style?? All in all is'nt this just a different way of showing the same or some new info. As an example If you have XM could'nt a update allow us to see the weather as shown?? The blue tooth streaming might be something is tied into this and maybe that why?? As you mention this is something similar in style to Lexus, but when Lexus does an update, I believe (older generations 3.0-5.0) on their Nav/HMI it does update some of the system to a different look and operation, even as going as far as eliminating certain overide tools (not good), can't Infinity do this to?? Just want your opinion and why?? Also anything on the more room in the back seats, or fronts seats concaved more??

internal components aside, it looks to me like the nav screen and the screen in general has higher resolution and the graphics look that way. if thats the case, youre not upgrading your current system to what the 2010 offers.

The new nav screen has 4x better resolution than before. The screen resolution is probably close to the best in the industry now.

I doubt the software for it will be able to be updated.

Steve,

You're making it REALLY tempting to come by the dealership, especially due to the odd issue with my leather seat discoloring. I love my EX, but I'm never buying a light leather interior again. Too high maintenance.

Based on what I've seen, I'm afraid I'd be driving out with a 2010 the next time I come in for service.

BTW - what's the "Camera" button for on the left? Can you turn on the rearview camera anytime and not just in reverse?

I bought my 2010 EX35 last Thursday and that's exactly what the camera button does.

Yea, but then doesn't the Camera shut off, when the Car gets up to a certain speed... just like the 2008's do ?

Not Steve, but, on the 2010, the 'Camera' button turns on the Forward camera! It's like the Rearview Camera, but it looks forward!! Same lines and view, only forward! It works great when pulling into an asymetrical parking slot, or to see exactly where that tall curb is before it can scrap the paint off!!

I loaded 1 and still have 154 hours and 48 minutes worth of recording time left.

Mmmm... on my 2008 EX35, when I hit the Camera Button, it too turns on the Front Camera.

So what is all the excitement about the Camera's on the 2010's ?

The numbers are low across the board end of the months coming might not be a bad time to check it out.

As with any new model the 2008 EX had it's share of odd quirks that are commonly mentioned on the forums. One of the things I love/hate about the first EX was the seats are so much more comfortable than any of the other models so far, just my opinion. However it is not as resilient as it should be. People like me with rough hands wear some of the leathers grain.

The camera button activates the Around View Monitor system depending on the gear position a different camera will activate. http://www.nissan-global.com/E...S/AVM/

Oh, I thought the 2010's had something special, but it appears to be the same system as what's on the 2008's.

The basics are all the same with some subtle changes. Given the fact that they have actually sold a few and may update it completely in a few years after the M and the QX it should be due.

Hi, SteveTheTech! I'm at Passport Infiniti right now using the Customer Business Center. I just took a look at the white 2010 EX35 in the showroom and noticed the variable heat control for the front seats. That's pretty cool. Will merely installing the varaible temperature knobs work on pre 2010 models?

BTW, I'm in here getting my EX's HDD system looked at. I'm supposed to drive up to Canada tomorrow night and this thing just crapped out on me. No sound system and no Navigation. It says "HDD system not functioning. Please see your dealer for assistance."

Last time I was in, the tilt-steering motor crapped out with the wheel tilted all the way up; I haven't had a chance to fix it either.

Uggg!

Thanks for the update! I guess I led this a little off topic. Anyway, I'm very happy to have my tilt steering back after going 4 months with the wheel tilted all the way up (been too busy at work to be able to bring it in).

Four months with no tilt

I'm glad to see we were able to catch you before you left. Good luck on your venture North. When you get back maybe we can check to see if those new seat heater switches will fit in your car.
