I put together when I needed to drop the pan:

http://www.q45.org/gallery2/v/....html http://www.q45.org/gallery2/v/....html

It's 3" drill stem left over from framing my boat shed, 5/8" threaded rod bent into a J bolt for the passenger lifting loop, 1/2" threaded rod to tighten the chain loop for the driver side - I welded a steel carabiner to a piece of 1/8" plate for the driver side lift point.

The two pieces of drill stem are not welded together - I cut a saddle notch out of the piece that runs fore/aft, and notched the top 4X4 slightly. The pieces stow more compactly than if they were welded together.

It served well, made from scrap for the most part, did not take too long to build.

Ouch! That's a lot of weight on those fenders!

Give me a call next time and we'll get my engine hoist up there and see if it will work on a VH45DE. I don't have the special attachements exhibited in Tangalora's excellent post.

Brian, thanks for the offer. I have an engine lift, but it has feet that would be under the car, in the way of dropping cross member and pan. I got the inspiration for my design from one of the slings shown in Tang's epic thread.

I've since reinstalled the hood, and suffered no damage of any sort due to sling, so I feel that it is well suited to the task, requiring much less strain than the method shown above.

Good deal. Without an overhead crane type device, you will have to deal with the foot issue.
