Proof he/she is the original owner, a lengthy and quite comprehensive service history (with receipts and repair orders), car fax (although not a truly reliable source, but good to have), and all documentation in hand is what I could see someone even thinking of asking that much for the car. Check the VIN for original color, options, and service history. Do a thorough walk around (preferably with a magnet) and look for any body damage/repairs. Set-up an appointment with a dealer for a multi-point inspection and take it there on the test drive (with the vehicle's owner approval). The tech might let you under the car while he does his inspection. Check under-hood fluids for color and odor. Engine oil that is dirty even after a fresh oil change is indicative of poor prior maintenance. Coolant color is the same. Might have just done a service, but if fluid is still brownish, there's probably rust in the system.
