(the beggining)(mid morning update)(wiring and final update)

brake light that is and yes i know on a street car this serves no practical purpose but on a track car well youll see.

first thing i did was to remove the vent out from under the drivers side running light

here are the parts

this is how the light assembly looks dissasembled

as you can see here the two mounting points on either side of the bulbs those mounts are how the light grounds

and the black wire on the back is the power supply that will be hooked up to the reciving side of the power from the brake switch

i then positioned the light where i wanted it on the vent and marked an outline for me to cut out.

once i got it cut out i then massaged the light into the vent assembly thats about as far as i got bfor i had to go to work more will come tomarrow

(Mid morning update)rear mount of the brackets

front version of the brakets

decided to give the vents a fresh coat of flat black helps to hide the mount brackets and gives the front a freshier look i think.

here is the base mounted into the vent as you can see the flat black helps hide the brackets

rear view of it mounted also you can see how i ran the wire for the ground.

with the lens back on in the front.

pics of the vents mounted back on the car.

(wiring and final update)

first of all this is where i hooked up the ground for light

and this is where i got the wire into the passanger cabin.

moving under the dash i unhooked the brake light switch as such

using a circut tester i found out that the red wire with the yellow tracer is the constant 12v+ source

next your going to want to cut two sections of wire apx. 4" long to make the wiring adapter harness

with one of the wires crimp a male and female blade disconnect this will be the constant 12v+ part of the adapter.

supply side for the light this is the start of the harness crimp the female blade connector to the one area and strip the other end of the wire.

next take it under the dash and take the wire from which that has the striped end and the wire comeing from the light twist them together and crimp them with the other male blade adapter like so.

now to wire it up first take the first wire you made and insert the male blade into the black connector the one with the red wire and yellow tracer. take the other side with the female side and connect it to either terminal on the brake light switch. And with the other part you made . connect the female side to the other side of the brake light switch and the male side to the other side of the black connector the one with the red wire and green tracer.

now to test the circuit take the tester and place the tip on the male blade connected to the red wire with the green tracer notice with out the brake pedal pushed the light is off so far so good.

next push the pedal and notice the light comes on thats good that means that the circuit is working. good job if it doesnt that means you probably switched the males in the wrong side just flip them around and re-test.

here is a picture of out side with the light on as you can see i pry need to get some brighter bulbs but in essance it works yipee.

i may be wrong, but this is so you can, from the front, tell when your braking, for track data right? if so, thats sick, keep it posted

thats right its for us poor guys who cant afford a gps data logger. the principle behind it is that you have a buddy with a camera. so that when if your traveling away from the car that you see your brake lights. if your heading toward the camera you pic up the front and from the side if you watch you can pick up the subtle nose dive.

let me know where ur gonna tap for the brake signal. im doing the same thing w/ a red grote led one... just been lazy. might try and do it today.

i am going to install a bypass switch to keep it off when driving on the streets. something about cops and cars not being allowed to have red front facing lights and what not.
