Ok, I find an 04 Xb for sale for $1500. I think, yeah right. I have an 05 already and I know it's worth more than that. "There must be something wrong with it!", I think to myself. But I go look at it anyway. It starts and runs, so I buy it. On the way home the motor makes a hell of a noise and siezes up. I'm pissed! Since it was a private seller I am screwed. Can't even cancel the check 'cause I paid cash. So I get it home and pull the oil plug. There was only MAYBE a quart and a half in the pan. I don't think it had been changed since the car was new. On with the project part!

So all day at work I was pondering what to do with said hunk of junk. Like I said, I already have one that is tricked a little and this was supposed to be my work car. I could part it out and make my money back, but then it hits me. PRo-Street! So here is the plan, Full tube chassis with Front engine/rear drive. I get to talking to some guys I work with, one guy has a frame jig for building tube chassis and his dad owns a chassis shop where he build drag cars, and another (my cousin) went to school for body and is going to chop the top to help with aerodynamics a little, and I can mold fiberglass parts as long as it is not too complicated so there will be plenty of weight reduction.

So all I have to decide on is the power plant. 2JZ? Tundra V8 with TT setup? But My wife says I have to finish my 240 first. It is about 3 months from being on the road. So I won't be getting a fast start on the Xb. The guy that builds the frames is coming over Friday to pull some measurements so he can get started on it. He is only charging me for materials, but chromemoly isn't cheap, in return for putting his dad's shop name on the car.

Any suggestions?

Here is my RUNNING Xb.

The V8 would be intense, but weight distribution and space might be an issue...

TUNDRA V8? Bah!

Titan V8. Or even a VH45. That'd rock.

In all reality, I'd go with the 2JZ. If you know what you're doing you can squeeze 1000hp out of it without to much trouble, which should be PLENTY to haul that Xb down the strip. At least you'll be keepin it in the family.

Okay, hold on a second. This is a 2004?

Find a stock motor in the junk yard. Slap it in there and sale that SOB. That's my my recomendation. Not sure how much they go for used, but Probally enough for you to put another engine in it and sale it off. I will assume there is no way to work the factory warranty to your advantage since the previous owner obvioulsy did the damage to the poor car. Idiots shouldnt be allowed to own, operate, or get near a car.

Now I am all for the 2JZ. But for the sake of the pocket book, I actaully like Mr1der's thought of a Chevy 350. They are cheap and there are tons of parts out there for them.

I would put another stock motor in it then sell it for a profit. With the cash left over go buy yourself a suitable project car.

Or you can drop a LS1 in there. You might get lucky and find a good deal on a crashed camaro/firebird donor car.

The question this has me wondering is--how much of a beast would a RWD conversion of an xB really be? Where would you run the driveshaft? Is there room for a differential?

I'd pull a SportClio/MicraR and drop a transverse V6 on the back axle.

Well, with a full tube frame, I can do just about anything. But I was trying to keep with the same manufacturer. SO I was looking at Toyota power plants. yes, the thing is a Rag. The guy had no respect for it. Not that it is a high end car or ever a mid class car, but come on! I think he was a Crack head, needed the money to get high.

As far as selling it for a "suitable project", I had stated befor that I have to finish my 240 first. I have about $20G into that one, so you can figure the money to put the Xb together won't be a subject.

Why would I want to put a smaller motor in my dedicated drag car when I have an RB in my (mostly, stored winters) daily driver?

I WANT HP! AND LOTS OF IT. I know, an SR can make plenty of it, but looking for more than a 4 banger.
