Hmm as long as I had my 240sx (ka24de), I've never had that yellow light come on before. Well I was trying to fix some idle problem with my car, it would dip below 800, sometimes going to 500rpm but it never shut down or stalled out. I took out the MAF to clean it, but it looked so clean! I hope it was the MAF i took out (4 inch black box, one ending coming from a long tube, 2nd end with 4 screws attached to the air filter?) ...anyways I still cleaned the hell out of it with the electric cleaner. The car still idles poorly ONLY in neutral. If i press the clutch, turn my steering wheel, turn on my lights, and even the ac, it will pick right back up to 1100 RPM where it has ALWAYS been, sometimes on days it would go as low as 900 but the car felt so good. Now at 800/700 has this unsettling feeling.

So question: Other than MAF, Spark plugs (put in new platnium ones 7,000 miles ago), wires...only thing i haven't changed is the rotor and distribuitor cap, could that be the culprit? Thanks in advance! -_________-

That is your check engine light and you likely triggered it when you disconnected the MAF with the key on. disconnect the battery for awhile and recheck it. It might just go out.

your cars idle spec I believe is 800 rpm. 1100 is to high with no accessories on.

ah thanks very much nistech! I guess I just got use to it idling at that rpm, should I still change the rotor and distributor cap? Maybe that will solve my problem of slight loss in power :P

yea it could, but you do still have the slight dump to 500 rpms every once in awhile which several posters do on this site and I have not seen a fix for that yet. I have not had to deal with that on many 240's but on other models that have done that it was typicaly the idle air control valve as the problem, but have seen a few other causes for it as well. Idle problems seem to plague 240's if you look around the site.

Back again Nistech, i took of the battery for about 10 minutes and the check engine light is still on! It's bright and annoying, should i reset the ecu? If that woudl solve it how do I reset it? :P

I read the idle problems on this form, took nearly 6 hours but I got a lot of useful info.

I still have the idle problem a bit, my car never stalls out. Next thing i'm going to do is check the vaccum hoses and maybe fuel pump, ...how do u know if the fuel pump is the problem? Thanks in advance!

you could reset the ecm but if its a hard code [ happening right now] the light will just come right back on immediatly. what code is it? did you plug your intake temp sensor back in? You may not have one if your car is not a california emissions vehicle.

To check if fuel is the problem hook up a fuel gauge and moniter the pressure both at idle snap throttle and while driving.

I know it's on the passanager side by the right of his foot as if someone was sitting there...i see this large plastic shield...some small screw in the back ..unscrewed it then i see a bunch of crap i dont' understand, wires ..i can't describe it..I've been looking for pictures..think u can guide me a little more OR know of a manual/place i can get pictures of it?

its a big silver box with a connector mounded with wires. cant miss it in there. There will be a hole in the side of it you can see the lights that flash when the key is on.
