If you look in your FSM chapters EF & EC you'll find details as to what will cause the CEL to light up and what won't.0wn3r wrote:Does the "Check Engine Soon" light come on for a general maintenance reminder or is something wrong and this really means "Check Engine" and I'll need to run it to find codes?
Majority of the time yes but it could also be something different. Also, you can take your car to any autoparts store and get the codes read for free. At least I know Schuck's, checker's, Kraggen, and autozone do the tests.ddgsxr504 wrote:It means that your O2 sensor is faulty and your mpg is going to start to suck balls!

More than likely it's the O2, on rare occasions it could be something else but when it's something else you'll know it cuz your car will run like pure unadulterated horse sh*t. i.e. CAS, MAF, EGR, Knock Sensor.wa-chiss wrote:Majority of the time yes but it could also be something different.
I work at schuck's and she wasn't lieing either. It says something like "evaporative emmissions system slow leak detected" so you go out, tighten cap, and clear codes. I usually ask them if they have recently filled up with gas as I'm tightening the cap.0wn3r wrote:lol the woman who ran it said "about 90% of the time it's the O2 sensor, the other 10% is the gas cap being left off"
heh.
Once again, everyone seems to think it's called On*Star. It's call Blonde*Star. Come on folks.audtatious wrote:The latest OnStar radio commercial I heard was some woman calling in because the CES was on. They ran a diag and came up with the gas cap issue.
Wonder if she was still dragging the hose behind her?
