Check Engine Soon light

My '99 QX4 has 37,000 mi. A few weeks ago the "Check Engine Soon" light came on. I seem to remember a connection to the odometer about 36,000 miles. Am I crazy? In the past, if the light came on I just tighted the gas cap and it would go out in a few weeks. Not this time! Thanks

I didnt' think there was a mileage relationship to the CEL. Get it over to Autozone or some chain store that will give it a quick scan for free, then post back. It may still be as simple as a faulty gas cap, which would be a nice cheap fix.

My mechanic and friend put the scanner on the QX4 and reset the CES light GRATIS! ! Thanks for your help and advice. We never did see what the fault might have been.
