Got a problem. My check engine light is coming on when I get on to the Interstate. But only on the interstate; I can drive around all day long on the surface streets and it does not come on. It takes about 5 minutes of sustained 75mph to activate it.

Anybody got any ideas? :

You can grab the code from the ECU in about 15 minutes with some basic tools. A code # will narrow things down considerably. I'd guess EGR code, but I wouldn't even take that one to Vegas on a longshot.

This used to happen to me, it hasn't gone off ever since I resoldered my MAF sensor, changed my belts, new thermostat, a new water pump, new fuel pump, fuel filter, and air filter.

I expected it to go off but holding it at 120mph and nothing anymore.

If the car has high miles, and the oxygen sensors have not been replaced I would suspect them. What year is the car, mileage etc????

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

It is a 1994 with only a little over 54,000 on the ticker it does not get driven much since I work out of the home.

How do you retreive the codes from the computer? This can be done without the dealer?

I had the same problem. I had an O2 sensor code.

Wow... great car! You may have the lowest mileage G50 in the board now! I'm approaching 70K on Q2.

1994 was still OBDI so whatever the code is, it's pretty major. OBDII cars "check engine light" you to death - even to the extent of coming on for a loose gas cap. The OBDI system wasn't that sophisticated, so when you see that light, it's typically something that needs to be fixed.

The good news is that you're close to T3 in Atlanta!
