Hello,

I've been a long time reader and contributer of this forum but have forgotten my password on the old account and thus I have created a new one.

I have read in a previous thread regarding the check engine light going off when the gas cap is not tightened properly. I make sure that I have the cap click several times and it has been fine so far until recently. I would fill the tank until it's full, turn the gas cap until it clicks 3-4 times with no problem, but once the gas indicator drops to 3/4 full, the light would come on. The light would turn off again after it reaches 1/4 full. I have noticed that this happens everytime I go to fill up these past couple of weeks.

While I have not taken the car into the dealer to have the car scanned, I assume the problem is related to the gas cap. Has anyone experienced this problem before?

Not exactly the same issue, but I recently had a persistent CEL. Turns out the purge solenoid valve failed (part of the evaporative emissions system). Wasn't covered under warranty as I have 63,000mi (105,000km) on the clock. The basic emission system warranty is 3yr/36,000mi.

In speaking to my mechanic, these components are subject to wear/age. They have issues with them not only on Nissan's, but many other makes as well. It doesn't help that the evap emissions system is located at the rear of most vehicles and gets subjected to a lot of water and debris kicked up from the tires.

There is also a service bulletin for the emissions system that should be checked:

NTB10018 - SB 2008 - 2010 Rogue; DTC P0444 Stored

IF YOU CONFIRM DTC P0444 (EVAP Canister Purge Volume Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Open) is stored, ACTIONS 1. Check for a broken wire at the Canister Purge Volume Control Solenoid Valve connector. 2. If there is a broken wire at the connector, install the Harness Service Kit listed in the Parts Information. See this bulletin for further detail.

I only have 52,000km on mine and so far the Rogue has treated me well minus the TPMS sensor nut giving out causing for flat tires last year.

I will be taking my car in for service this Saturday. I'll respond with what my car is diagnosed with.

If you haven't already heard, there is a recall regarding cracked TPMS sensor nuts. They should be replaced free of charge by any Nissan dealer.

I got them replaced. I was the one who started that thread a few years back regarding the TPMS sensors falling out. At that time I was the odd one out who had the nasty experience (changing a flat during the middle of February in Canada is no fun). I'm glad they had the recall for the safety of Rogue owners.

Went to the dealer today to get my oil changed and have the "check engine light" diagnosed.

Turns out it was the EVAP control system (EL50AA DTC P0455) and the EVAP canister vent control Valve (FC50AA) that needed replacing. Good news is everything is still covered under warranty.

Yup, that's the exact same problem I had. Except I was out of warranty... :frown:

$150 for the parts and another $135 in labor. Total damage was $320.

OUCH! While not a horrific repair bill like $1500 (or mor) it still hurts to lay out three large ones just to remedy a check engine light. Has me re-thinking the idea of purchasing an extended warranty. Some may argue its throwing money down the drain... but a two or three repairs like this and I could be money ahead.

This has been the only out of warranty repair on my Rogue so far. Everything else has been minor warranty stuff or just wear and tear (brakes, oil changes, filters). Considering I have 63,000mi (105,000km) on the clock, it's pretty good.

Same here....due to wear and tear, one of the valves remained open. Under warranty and fixed.

Also had CEL ... diagnostics revealed needed valve replacement. Two separate visits to take care of that and serpentine belt, etc. For all work, total came to $500+. 2009 Rogue with 37,000 miles. Should I consider getting extra warranty for future problems? We just paid off car last week.
