Hey guys, my dad has a 2001 Maxima GLE and the check engine light has been on for a while. The car runs perfectly normally. im guessing its one of the sensors. Is there anything i can look at before sending it to a mechanic?

And while im here, i wanted to know if the GLE 2001 is powered by chain or belt.

If you take it to Autozone, they can check the code for free. Then you can check this thread to see what it means. zerothread?id=126537

Yes it (and all VQ's) has a timing chain.

So it turns out that O2 sensor 2 in bank 1 is inactive, and if im not mistaken, this is on the driver side after the 2nd cat. Is it possible to replace this myself? The Sensor is about $110

Totally a DIY job. You'll need some penetrating oil (PB Blaster) and a 21mm (I'm pretty sure) wrench or O2 socket tool.

So, where are all of the )2 sensors located? Do you know of anywhere with a better price?

What trouble code was stored? That particular year model may or may not require the ECM (electronic control module) to be reprogrammed.
