Ok guys. My 02 maxima engine light has been on for quite some time now. I took it to me friend's auto shop who ran his scan machine and read the following:

P0420 (Three way catalyst function-B1) sets when ECM detects switching time that is out of range between front and rear 02 sensors.

I was wondering if I need to replace my 02 sensor B1 or reset my ecm? Help guys. thanks.

The 3-way catalyst function B1 code is the actual catalytic converter that is part of the exhaust manifold on that particular side. It could be a problem with the y-pipe as I'm 99% sure that those years had issues with them. I'm also pretty sure that there was a TSB out for them as well. The TSB stated to replace the y-pipe assembly and the o2 sensors and the problem would be fixed.

So should I just change the Catalyst Converter?

TSB = Technical Service Bulletin

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/tsbs/

or you can check with the dealer.
