the car: '93 240sx hatchmotor: sr20det redtop Error code: 55the problem:

This morning while getting on the interstate, my check engine light came on. I just finished putting on SS turbo lines, and an s15 exhaust manifold gasket. The car was laid up for a while waiting on parts. It ran great sat. and sun. I have never checked ecu codes before, but I did this morning after driving back home, the ecu threw code 55. The car ran fine and I read on here that 55 is this "everything's ok, but there is a problem somewhere" code, so I drove to work. On my way to work the light turned on and off again twice. It went off while driving straight, came on while turning right, went off again later while turning left, and came back on when going straight.

I am baffled.

Anyone have any ideas?

yes, all fluid levels are at the right level... accept maybe windshield washer fluid, but that wouldn't set off the check engine light would it? i had mine off for a long time but just put it back on. i thought about it but didn't think that would cause the CEL to come on.

It's probably a loose connector somewhere if it's only doing it under a turn. Double check all of your EFI connections.

It could also be that the ECU has an old code in storage and just needs resetting.

it is on while driving straight, and goes off when i turn. i thought it might me a loose connector. ill check them all when i get home, and try resetting the ecu. i had to disconnect a few things when doing the SS line install so i will check those. the only things i can remember disconnecting were my o2 sensor, and the oil pressure sensor (i had to take it out to check fitting on my oil pressure gauge and i was going to install buy haven't yet. no one in town had a BSPT to NPT thread adapter. Headaches)

When was the last time you replaced the O2 sensor?

The check engine light, usually, starts to act up when the O2 sensor are about to go out.

Your best bet is to be ready to pull the code the next time the computer throws a code, regardless of where you may be.

Reading through everything you said the one thing I was thinking the whole time while reading.Check your oil pressure sensor that is what I would go after.

I checked all the plugs this morning, they all seemed to be properly connected, but I'm thinking it might still be a connection somewhere because when I go around round-abouts, the CEL turns off.

Also, isn't the oil pressure sensor just a switch? I.E., if it were badly connected, nothing would happen, or if it were disconnected entirely, nothing would happen. I could be way wrong, but I thought all the oil pressure sensor did was turn on the idiot light if pressure dropped below 8 lbs.

try to get the code after driving (when the CEL came on & off) but don't turn off the ignition while retrieving the code. Sound like the ecu battery saver was tap to an ignition signal, that's why evrytime u turn off ignition, the code was erase, if it's ok, possible ecu problem, try to borrow another ecu to check it.

Try turning the wheel while parked and see if the CEL comes one
