My check engine light came on, any idea what these codes are?

P0021 intake valve timing control performance bank 2
P0011 camshaft position "A" - timing over advanced or system performance bank 1

Did you over-oil your K&N filter? Sounds like the intake manifold is gunked up. Usually over-oiling throws a
MAF code, but I'd take the intake off and examine the intake manifold on the motor and make sure its nice and clean and shiny.

I didnt put any oil on it. Instal)ed right out of the box

Autozone said to replace tge intake solenoid

Other searches said its due to low oil pressure. Maybe gasket or seal

Another thing i read was the timing chain has some flex and time for replacemeny

I bought a obd2 scanner tool and will clear the code and see if it comes back

Unless the intake kit is different, K&N filters have to be oiled up to catch any contaminants. Injen has a dry filter. I hope theres a difference in the kit and drop in filters. K&N was cut from my list after stories of MAF codes from too much oil and engine issues from not enough.

But they are washable and reusable, so theres that.

It was brand new, so i assume it came oiled. But yes after cleaning it needs to be oiled. I did read the same thing. But the codes dont appear to be maf sensor related.

I've had my Injen intake for over two years with no issues what so ever. only issue is the filter is $80 to replace and that time is coming up.

Have you cleared the codes and put the stock intake back on?

The same codes came back..

Well, I guess I will start replacing parts until I find the problem.. I talked to the person at the parts dept at Nissan and he gave me a few different scenarios..
1. Low oil or Dirty oil --- which its not since the oil was just changed in May
2. Camshaft position sensor
3. Some Solenoid
4. Or a complete Valve job with $500 in parts and 12 hours of labor... about $1800.00

I am going to try the Camshaft position sensor. nissan part number 23731-ja11b
Anyone ever replace on of these? Its only a $80.00 part. Doesn't seem to hard to replace, but I wish I could find a better video on how to do it.

So I finally took my car to the dealer to diagnose my problem... bad news...

They said they had to call Nissan to confirm the diagnoses and I guess they need to remove the rear timing cover because an internal seal is bad. I guess this seal is for one of the passage ways to carry oil up to the top of the engine.. this will throw the codes. They need to remove the entire engine to do the repair!! They said it is a 15.6hour job and about $600.00 in parts for a grand total of $2870 +tax... WTF!!!

The car only has 71k miles.. this should not happen..

I called Nissan to file a complaint to see if they can help with the repairs.. we will see how that goes.

I suppose I should shop around.. and see what other prices I can find.. for the repair job..

Nissan charges around $100-$120/hour in labor. And they mark up their parts. My alternator just went bad, they quoted me $700 to fix it. Found an independent mechanic who did the whole job for $400. Shop around, I did the same thing as you and let Nissan tell me what the problem was, then got it fixed elsewhere.

So i asked them to do better on the price and they came to 2170.. not sure what to do. Still find this all hard to believe.... for a job like this, i just dont know if i should trust anyone else.

I had the same issue on my 2008 infiniti ex35 with 130,000km (about 95 miles). Same remedy, dealer had to open and remove the timing chain cover to get at the blown gaskets, which they replaced with upgraded metal reinforced gaskets. Cost$2700 at Infiniti dealer, mostly labor costs. Gaskets were like $10.00 each. Complained to infiniti Canada head office and they basically blew me off saying the drivetrain was out of warranty. I contend the gaskets were substandard material, otherwise why would they have upgraded the gaskets? If enough owners incur the same issue, i would like to start a class action again Infiniti. Love the car, but this really pissed me off.
