does anyone know the process to check ecu codes in a y33 if you do not have a consult? i searched around and found a procedure for g50s but for y33 it just says to plug in a consult scanner which i cant afford.

it's obdii, if you're cel is on go to autozone and they'll check the codes for free.

there's probably a way to check them the ecu blinky light way but i can't decipher the fsm to figure it out.

Everyone with a 1996 and later [any brand vehicle] should have their own universal obd2 scanner as they are so inexpensive and of course a dowmloaded FSM.

hmm k just noticed that the universal scanners are like 20 bucks, ill probably get one of thoes. PS the "service engine soon" is equivelant to a CEL in these cars, right? havent had a chance to flip through the owners manual.

The problem is preOBD2 cars have at most 20 codes displayable by blinking lights whereas OBD2 car have multi hundreds [much more exacting and fine codes to explain what's happening not just broad generic component defect code.

With an OBD2 scanner you look up the 4 digit code in FSM and it zero in on the next steps to isolate the problem. You google the code and often see common problems and fixes.
