Monday: refueled my car @ 7:15pm
Tuesday: driving to work at 8am, no problems
Tuesday: Coming come from work at 5pm, AND I GET A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. i could tell the car wasn't operating any differently, so i wasn't worried.
  • 1. i came came home, attached my ELM bluetooth device, turned on my Torque APP, and scanned. Came out a GROSS EVAP LEAK.
    2. checked my gas cap, and i could tell it wasnt on right. the "leash" to the cap wrapped around the lid, and stopped it from being threaded on right.
    3. I removed it, and unwound the leash, and reinstalled.
    4. cleared the code.
today is Thursday, and no check engine lights, all is good.

(just wanted to share, so others dont freak out if their check engine light turns one - first check the cap)

A dealership would have charged $129 for that.

I had a similar experience 10k miles ago, my Service Engine Soon (not check engine) light illuminated after a fill-up. I have a scangauge and it showed the error code as p0455 (gross evap leak). The gas cap wasn't on right as you mentioned. I cut the leash off cause it was tangled very badly. I reset the code. No light for the last 10k. Sleep well, you will be fine...

I had the same problem, and what I did was: I cut off the leash from the gas cap since it was getting into my nerves, then I sprayed a tiny bit of WD40 Water Resistant Silicon lubricant onto the rubber seal for it to loosen up a little bit (a friend recommended to do that), and finally put the gas cap back on.

Then I connected my ELM Bluetooth device, and with the Torque app I clear the p0455 code I had. Since I did all that only two days ago, only time will tell if the code is going to come back or not.

Not mine, it came back on Saturday. So, I ended up buying a gas cap from Advance Auto Parts yesterday. So far I have driven around 200 miles and the light has yet to come back again.

Had the same light. Replaced the gas cap. Cleared the code. Light kept coming back after a few days. Tried to fill up and the pump kept clicking off after a few seconds and gas would bubble up to the opening. $400 fix to replace the Evap Valve.

Update: Light came back again, I decided to go to the dealer and bought a Nissan OEM cap but after 200 miles the light came back on. Now I will have to go to the dealer and make them change the Evap Valve, hopefully that part will be replaced under warranty...

I have the evap valve that I will sell to you at half price if you're interested.

I had the code and replaced the gas cap and the light came back on. Then I bought and replaced the evap valve but the light didn't go off. Then I noticed that there is a TSB on the Wiring harness and that one of my wires was broken. I replced the harness and it was fixed. The evap valve wasn't on for more than a few minutes. I can take pictures of it if you'd like. It is really simple to replace and there's a good "how to" on this site. However, i would check your wiring harness first.

Let me know if you're interested in the evap valve.
