96 QAfter an oil change and air cleaner(Nissan original) replacement today the check engine light(multifunction indicator lamp) stays on. This is undoubtedly because the connector to the air cleaner housing(?) was left off as the car was started 4 or 5 times and then quit as soon as the hammer mechanics tried to drive it. With the connector back on the car started but now had the MIL on. The boys disconnected and reconnected the battery with no success and then told me that it should go off after driving it. I have my doubts. Any advice? Thanks.

The connector is to the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. You should be able to reset your ECU. I would download the Q45 Factory Service Manual - There should be instructions there on how to reset your ECU. Then you'll know if the sensor connection is OK.

Good luck!

You'll need something like winrar to decompress and then you need to search for posts by TexasOil as he cites a garage in Houston that knows a little about Q45. A bad mechanic will cost you dearly.

There is no reason to mess with MAF connector when changing the oil or air filter.

Go to Autozone and they will clear the code for free, it will probably not go out on its own.

If you've got the inclination then you can buy a OBD-II code reader at Autozone for $75-$250 and you will be able to clear the code yourself as well as check any future codes yourself thereby avoiding any mechanic.

Thanks guys. I have the manual but still haven't found anything on the reset. Will keep looking. Also went to Autozone. They will check codes but not clear them because of the liability. They tried two Actron OBDII's. One was dead, the other got as far as "Linking" but not beyond that. They even have them on sale for about $60. Maybe there's a reason for that. I will have to try my mechanic on Monday.

MAF connector can come loose during air filter changes though, esp if the wiring is brittle.

Retarded people remove the airbox to get to the oil filter, when it's best removed from beneath.

Same thing happened to me a month ago on my G35. Infiniti service told me it would go out by itself after a couple of hundred miles. It went off after less than 100 miles.
