so the s13 dont have them right
Not right there and it is still unclear to me if early s13's (89-90) had them at all. I'm going to email the guy again for more detailed info.

If the s13 does have one I found is on the driver side in the fuse box area. and if you see the pic of the FSM I posted above is says it is.

yea man mine told me that it couldnt detect the ecu and i email the guy and he told me that it might because that i might have a bad ecu or the ecu fuse is blown but everything works fine and i still dont have a clue about what it could be

I'm having the same prob with my 93 de, but with another eBay cable (not a serial one)....hope the cable isn't related ... when i start up the software (TECU or conzult...) it says it cannot detect the ecu... any one found a solution to this prob?? bad ecu / wires, bad cable, user error... I'm connecting it to the gray ob1 connector in kick panel ftr. (looks nothing like the black one above)

mine's an '89 and I was informed that '89-'90's don't have the hookup for it. I was getting the same error's BTW. I'm keeping the cables however for when I ever get around to my swap.

My ecu doesnt have a diagnostic screw on the ecu and this sounds like a great option. But are you saying the cables DONT work for obd1 cars or just 89-90. Mine is a 90 and that may be a prob. Also is this the site http://www.ecutalk.com/interface.aspx you guys are referring to?

I believe it was the fact that 89-90 OBD1's would not work, but the later ones will. an that actually looks like a better setup than the original. I might get one for my newer couple I'm getting. Maybe I can find another newer ECU to swap out the one in my '89.
