i smoke, ive just never used the ashtray though heh. i use it for change. but thats not a bad idea, cutting the bottom. either that or i was just gonna pop up the plastic piece around the shifter, just the clip down by the ashtray on the passenger side, and feed the usb cord there. that way i can be lazy and not have to cut anything.

and 240sx8501: obd2 is wayyyyy different than obd1. obd2 you dont even need to buy anything, you can just go to advance auto or autozone, they have the scanner there and they let you check it for free. us obd1 people have to pop out our ecu and count blinking lights on the other hand lol

ok my package just got here today from jason, and i just finally paid for the usb cord when i now i realize...my laptop is so old it has a serial port, not usb. so now i gotta go buy a regular serial cord lol. oh wello, $5 wasnt a big deal, and i do plan on gettin a newer laptop soon, so the usb cord will come in handy one of these days. but in the mean time i guess i'll just plug it in, mount the big chip aka tape it, and then just plug in the serial adapter as i need it. good enough. ok, im runnin to radioshack, hopefully i have time to test it out today.

Just to clear some things up, 95 was a obd1/2 computer. It's based on the obd1 but can be read by obd2 readers.

im not sure, i havent done mine yet. i just realized my old a** laptop doesnt have a usb port, only serial. and ive been so busy i havent looked for a oldschool serial cable yet. friday if its nice out i'll work on it. it's been so s***ty out as well but spring is finally here. my priority is to wash my car first though to get all the salt and s*** off. so i might not get around to it til sunday but i'll def check back after i do. email jason and see if he has any suggestions. he said its just plug and play pretty much.

yeah I'll email him and I even tried the other connectors I could find, but I'm pretty sure I got the right one. Unless it on the passenger side right next to the ECU which makes no sense. That would mean that when a 240sx went to get code read, they would have to take the door sill piece and the kick panel off. I'm using the cable I got from ebay, to a serial/USB adapter, and still won't detect it.

i remember reading that its usually kinda tucked above your right foot, but it also said not everyone's, so if that's the only plug you can find, it's probably the right one. but your guess is as good as mine. i wish other people that have done this would speak up. if anyone else has, that is...

I'm diggin through the FSM and if not in there, I'll pick through the schematic. I'll find it in no time there but it's 4am and don't really feel like tracing all those damn lines.

Were you able to turn off the check engine light or resolve the problem? Cuz i have a '95 with the same port underneath the dash (passenger side). Man, if an obd2 scanner works, im gonna be relieved.

Your thinking too much, just try it....You need no adapter, it fits right in. 95's were a mesh of obd1 and 2, apparently the plug is obd2.(unless the plugs are the same )

Are you using the plug on the passengers side? I rented an auto zone obd2 scanner, and it plugged right in.
