A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I have a 95 Sentra and it's been GREAT for me. It usually gets between 34-38 mpg and has needed little repair since I bought it 3 years ago. At the moment, my check engine light is on... for no apparent reason. I had stopped at a light and it just popped on.

I had both oxygen sensors replaced in August of 2005. My brother works for a Nissan dealership (which is where I bought the car) and said that the check engine light really only comes on for the sensors... but I guess I'd just like some reassurance.

SECONDLY (and unrelated to the check engine light), when I turn SLIGHTLY, there is a knocking noise. If I turn sharply, there is no sound. What could this be?

Thanks for reading and helping!

The knocking is probably just the suspension, it's a 12 year old car. Unless it starts to ride badly, I wouldn't worry. At worst it's a CV joint going bad, which you'd notice on acceleration at some point too.

Have your brother or Autozone check the SES/CEL code. There are quite a number of things it could come on for, but O2 sensors and other emissions equipment are the most common reasons. I doubt it's your O2 sensors again, it's probably something simple like a loose gas cap. Unless the light starts flashing, it's not an imminent catastrophe.

Awesome- THANK YOU!

I had a guy listen to it today and he said the knocking is probably a rubber bushing?

Anyway, I'm know I'm overly protective... but it's my first car!

Thanks again!
