I drive and repair my 1998 Q45. The Service Engine Light is on. I checked the gas cap for leaks and it is OK.

So I tried plugging in a code scanner to the port under the dash and turned the key to the on position. The scanner is a Actron CP9175 Diagnostic Code Scanner but nothing appeared on the screen. The scanner is good as it had just been used on an American car and worked correctly. This is the second scanner of this type that did not work on my Q.

Do I need a special scanner for my car? Or in there another tool that I can use?

Thanks, Bruce

Any capable OBD II scanner should work. Does it remember codes and is it capable of a reset? Low line scanners are a waste of time and money.

What scanner have you used that works with a Q?

I have not been able to get into reset the code.

Thanks, Bruce

Then I would say that scanner is not a capable one.

SnapOn and one other quicke one. Almost any $200 or more retail one will work well.
