I changed only the upper intake manifold on my 240sx. I have a 1994 convertible and I replaced it with an older manifold that had butterfly valves. They were removed but just the bar remains at the end. This was the only different thing I could see.

Engine is throwing code 32, EGR malfunction. I pushed upwards on the diaphragm, the car idled weird.

Okay, I hooked up a vacuum hose wrong place... looked at diagrams, I tried something.. I switched the bottom two on the lower manifold.

Check engine light comes on after reset.. now its throwing code 32 EGR malfunction AND code 34 which is knock sensor..

Also, it's doing this sometimes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7B-g8IR ... e=youtu.be

Notice that toward the end of the video 1:15 in , the light goes off when the trans shifts, and the revs drop.

This time I pushed up on the EGR diaphragm and the car shut off.

I'm so frustrated over this, I can't figure it out

I do not live in an area were I can remove the EGR system.

Do I NEEEEEED to use my 94 manifold on my 94 car? I removed it in the first place because the bleeder bolt snapped and it leaked a lot of antifreeze

Any '91-'94 Manifold should swap over without an issue. Would look around for vaccum leaks first. Spray starter fluid around and see if the idle changes.

The solenoid for the egr, check its wiring and double check the vacuum hoses to it maybe? Did you reconnect when you changed the manifold? EGR might be stuck open if idle has changed. Could be stuck closed; that might set off the knock sensor.

I fixed the code 34 problem. A vacuum line was incorrectly hooked up. Not sure why that would throw code 34....

Now it's intermittent. Sometimes the light goes on and sometimes it goes off....

What controls the vacuum to the EGR? Is it the BPT valve then the solenoid exclusively? I push up on the EGR diaphragm, and the car idles like crap. This is a sign that the EGR valve itself works.

I hit the gas though, and there is no movement of the diaphragm... Sometimes there is, though. This is when the check engine light turns off. It almost seems like a solenoid or that EGR temp sensor is going bad..

The ECM sends a signal to open or close the solenoid that controls the EGR system. A knock can occur if the engine combustion is too hot which is what the EGR system helps to regulate so that NOx gas production is limited. If you're sure the vacuum hoses are hooked up correctly, get the FSM and a multimeter if you don't have them and check the solenoid and temp sensor. The procedure is in the FSM.

Here is a diagram from the 95 FSM. Hope it applies to your 94.

This diagram is actually correct. My 94 240sx doesn't have some of the other solenoids that the 93's have. Weird, I know...

I'll look up the procedure to test the temperature sensor and solenoid... I'll try to post my results as soon as I can. I feel like this is the most complicated thing on the car.

That's exactly what I found! If I need those sensors I'll let you know man.

Thanks guys, I'm gonna test these functions after class. That check engine light won't be on much longer..

So on the BPT valve..... there's the bottom hose that connects to the EGR. and there's two hoses on the top. I plugged one of the top ones, and the bottom one.

I applied suction, and heard quite the leak. and also blew into it, and heard the same leak.

Does this mean my BPT is bad?
