CHECK ENGINE CODE P0340- P0328

hi all,

my 06' m35x all of a sudden has the engine light on with codes
P0340 & P0328
I know one is for the cam sensor I just don't know where is it located on the vehicle and which one and what brand to buy from advance.
do I ask for a "camshaft sensor or a "crank sensor"?
the other i'm wondering if it got triggered because of the cam sensor?

P0340 is for the camshaft sensor on the passenger (right-hand) side (Bank 1). I suggest you go for oem. See

The other code is for the knock sensor. It's possible that this has been triggered off by the camshaft sensor malfunction. Normally, the knock sensor would not trigger off the MIL. If the code stays after you get rid of the P0340, that means the knock sensor was already bad, and would therefore require to be changed too.

1) Your profile still says 03 M45, and if you still have that, you should be able to list both.
2) Several posts about cam/crank sensors for 06/07 M's (possibly M45s, I don't remember and you should search) recommend changing all three sensors when this code comes up. I can't remember if it's because the codes don't necessarily indicate the bank you'd think or because they usually fail around the same time, however, I think those posts also indicate all three sensors are the same part.
