My coupe just turned over 1300 miles and my check engine light just came on. The manual says it's an emissions thing and should go away (and yes I've already checked my gas cap). I have an Injen intake installed but that was at least 400 miles ago so I don't think it has anything to do with it. Of course I'll be taking it to the dealership should it not turn off in the next few days but does anyone have any thoughts?

If your car is giving an emissions code, I would think it may be the MAF sensor. Did you check to see if it wedged loose? I would take the MAF sensor out and put it back in tightly. Disconnect the negative on your battery for a couple of minutes, then hook it back up and drive for a little bit. Give that a shot before taking it in.

Yea, this may not be a coincidence that it happened shortly after your intake install. My first guess would be MAF like Eric suggested. Troubleshoot as was mentioned and go from there.

i checked the maf and it seemed to be tight. i went ahead and unplugged the harness and plugged it back in just for kicks. then i disconnected the neg. terminal to reset the code.....now just a matter of time to see if it trips again....

If it does, take it straight to the dealer.

So you're saying the dummy light turned off? If it's still on, drive for 20-50 miles or so and see if it goes off; the comp needs to adjust.

Do you happen to know off-hand what the code is? When you say emissions related...is it stated in the Injen install guide? I know that they have had issues with intakes in the past throwing codes.

Remember, also, Nissans are known for bad vent control valves (the valve that purges the gasoline vapors from the tank to the charcoal canister), and even if you say you "checked the gas cap" it doesn't mean there aren't vapors leaking from the seal.

I didn't check the code. When I say "the manual", I meant the owners manual. The light is off now so I'm not going to worry about it unless it trips and comes on again. If that happens, I'm just going to take it to the dealershiip (that's what warranties are for). Thanks everyone for the advice, I mainly wanted to see if there were more people out there with this problem.....I'm hoping it was a one time thing and I won't have to deal with it in the future...

There are hundreds of possibilities of what the light could be on for, i would definitely take it to the dealer and have them give you the code number and a clear description of what they did to repair it.

I don't think you have to take it in. You said it came on shortly after installing your intake so that probably was the cause of it. My truck did the same thing and I did exactly what I told you to do and it went away and never came back on. If there was a problem with something, the light will trip back on again.

i was under the impression that the CEL was still on. Even if its not, what would it hurt to just have the code checked for free?

Follow your stock intake manifold. There should be a harness plugged into the tube, thats the MAF. If its loose you'd be able to feel it. If it makes you feel better you can unplug it and plug it in again, nothing will happen if it wasn't loose.

Here are some pics

-- You can see the little harness plugging into the tube, here's another shot.

Your tube will look a little different since you have a 2.5

i was wondering about something else too. my car has a little over 1300 miles on it, so does that mean the service engine light went on because i have to go in for regular maintenance? i was pondering this because i noticed the topic creator also had 1300 miles on his altima when his light came on, but that could be because he also installed an intake.

another question i wanted to ask was this: how can i reset the service engine light so that it goes away. the reason why i want to do this is because i want to see if it comes back on again afterwards.

can anyone help me with this? it would be much appreciated.

Reyski,

Here is a great .pdf that will teach you how to reset the SES light along with a list of codes.

Dexion was nice enough to link us to the original author of this compilation from another forum.

there are hundreds of possible codes that could turn your check engine light on. there are so many various sensors and components and different conditions that can turn a check engine light on. so being able to tell you why your check engine light is on without getting a code number is impossible. go to the dealer and have them check it, its still under warranty, or if you dont trust the dealer for whatever reason, you can go to advanced autoparts and they will check it for free, and give you the code number and i can give you advice on here as to what the repair should be.

hey 2008coderedcoupe,

aside from the fact that my car is still flashing 0011? not really lol. but! there was another member on this board, who is also a nissan technician, who said that the problem was in fact a variable valve timing solenoid. he said that specific part on 07 and up altimas were troublesome. any ideas on what i should do, or let the technician know so they can fix it asap? again, thanks for all the help and feedback.

well it COULD be the solenoid, it wasnt just the 07 and up that had problems with the solenoids. Ever since Nissan came out with the 3.5L with the VTC, they have just had problems with the whole VTC system. Either solenoids, or cam sensors, or the VTC sprockets themselves. it is very frustrating.

really? it's like that, huh? lol. you'd figure since it's nissan they'd atleast try to look out for their employees... but then again, i'm just looking at it from the standpoint of any large company; unfortunately, that's often not the case
