After laying under the Q for awhile looking at what had to come out and knowing the %$#@er had to be replaced, I felt the rain of blessings from the Q gods. Pulling out the tape measure, I figured it out. Remove the pedals, pull back the carpet, and bore a 2" hole over the *&^%$#mn sensor. Worked great! Put in a 2" caplug with some undercoating and it's done. (about an hour)Forgot to tell you guys about this, it was lost to the mists of time 'til a Newbie jarred it loose. I used a 90 deg. adapter on the drill w/ a hole saw. Measure VERY CAREFULLY 2 - 3 X !!!!!!!!

You must have a big brass pair of 'nads... I'd be scared to death to touch my car with a hole saw!! Glad it worked for you though!

I'm always a fan of contravention for expediency. I saw it as cheating, must have bigguns to R&R (a couple days?) the trans to replace it. My hat is off to those of you who did or will! But Thanx!

Man, it would be a cool article and a really useful modification to install a threaded collar with a screw plug. Brass would do nicely.

Did a similar type 'cut and patch' job on changing the heater core on a mid 80's v-6 ford taurus. Either that or disassemble entire dash assembly (22 hrs by the book) for a $46 part (identical to that of the 1960 Ford Falcon btw)

It is often said that the heater core is the most basic part of a car-meaning the whole car seems to be assembled from there out, and replacing it means duplicating the entire assembly line.

I almost had to do the same thing to a '97 taurus for these "people" I worked for. I told them the dash had to come out, so they had me put in radiator sealant and ran it through the auction. Somebody out there got screwed.
