Ok, I bought my 240 almost two years ago. Its a sohc fastback. The car came with a very nice high flow cat, mandrel bent 2.25" exhaust all the way back, and then a fairly nice ractive exhaust. Ok, alot of you call them "fartcannons", oh well. I didnt mind the exhaust much, I could take it or leave it. Now, Im going to college for automotive tech in a tiny little town in new york. there are about 30 cops and state troopers all over the place, constantly looking to get kids with modified cars. I have already recieved a ticket for this exhaust, and paid it. In the last month, I have been pulled over for it twice more, by the same officer who keeps hassling me. I dont drive recklessly, or hammer on the car at all when Im in town. They see the shiny muffler, and pull me over. My question is, what would be a good cheap way to go back to stock or looking stock? My budget is pretty small. I went to advance auto parts's website but its hard to price exactly what I will need since they list so omany parts. Are there any exhaust systems that arent too expensive, and look stock, but provide less restriction? Thanks for any input.

i am not sure how much it would cost to get a new one....i would go to a junkyard or muffler shop first.

But i would think about painting the muffler wth some sort of heat resistant paint. If the muffler isn't shiny, mybe it won't attract as much attention.

you could get a dump pipe, you weld it in after the header, and when you want to just cruise close the valve and the exhaust gas will go through your stock exhaust, and when you want to race, you open the valve via a lever, and the gas come out right there and bypasses the rest of your exhaust.

id sell you my stock exhuast on a count of i just got a better one, but i wont be taking my stock one off til i turbo early in the new year.

a local shop around here wanted to charge me 400 bux for a stock exhaust, so i don't think it's really worth it.

Catback exhaust is not illegal. Unless it is louder than 95 db.
