Now i know that the cheapest forged rods made for the ka24 are crower rods. The cheapest price I have found is $640 for them. Now i feel that this is too much for rods. So i began looking for other rods that were close to these rods. Rods are made for GM 454 can be bought with a 6.535" and the stock rods are 6.495". With a set of custom Pistons that .040" could be adjusted to get the desired compression ratio and I would think it wouldn't interfer with the block for being just barely longer. Also the Pin size on the small end is also larger but with custom pistons this would also be no problem. The ONLY problem i see with using these rods are the size on the large end is 2.1" and the crower rods have a size of 2.086". I don't know if having a .014" difference is a huge deal, i assume that it is, is there anyway i could counter that? The only reason i'm considering this is i know I can get 8 rods of these for $500. It is alot cheaper. What do you think?

Sounds like it's alot of risk and headache for $140. Rod length and all that stuff has extremely tight machine clearances, so I'd pay the extra $140 for the peace of mine that it's for my car and supposed to work that way.

thats 500 bucks for 8 rods...which means its a heck of a lot more savings than 140 dollars. He might be able to sell the other rods too...or keep them for spares. I think it'd be interesting to see if they can work :)

If you've got the $$ and time to work all this out and have a spare motor to do it on I'd say go for it, the info could be helpful. But if this is your daily driver I'd say there's a TON of risk invovled, but I'm anal about machine clearance values. Thing is he's really only paying for 4, if he tries four and they work he shouldn't need the other four, and if he doesn't he knows they don't work and they're useless. MAYBE if it works someone could do the same thing and he'd be able to deal him a set of rods. I've got several KAs lying around, if it works I'd like to try it myself, I can get my hands on V8 parts for hella cheap.........
