i work at kragen= cheap parts. the only thing i havent replaced is the head gasket. you spent a **** load on parts that ended up being 500hp and 6 k later. thats not the number hes looking for. he wanted a number for that swap not a swap that makes 500 hp. and im making 286whp btw. with the stress or gas prices today, ill take my reliable 286 any day as a daily driver. you can keep you 500.

btw great find on the rb 240. make sure you get that timing belt done just in case he didnt. being an interferance motor its the most important thing you can do. if you need parts gimmi a holla. ive got two extra trannys now and tons of misc for ka and rb. pumps ect.

yea so panda garage got some kool stuff ill def be orderin a few things. o and also since this thread got completely off topic anyways...anyone kno a good way to put a good aftermarket bov on the rb20 without havin to swap to the greddy type intake manifold first? the stock one is about 1mm from hitting the hood as it is so i it gonna be tricky.

your BOV can be mounted anywhere between the turbo and the throttle body...i think its just like 12" away from each end or somethin like that...find a area where you have room, and get the BOV's bung welded to your piping. then run your vacuum line and your set.

I still get 26mpg+ on the HWY...so I cant complain to much w/ only puttin in 93...i understand he wont have what I have into my motor....thats why I quoted him ~3800 in his swap. You cant tell him he will have a running RB 240 for 1500 especially if you are getting discounts on parts etx...not everyone get discounts...so he is prob gonna be lookin for parts on ebay/stores online etx... If he gets away for $k or less i'd be surprised...especially for someone who hasnt done a RB swap...stuff always comes up when you do a swap...everyone knows that. anyways...good luck w/ your build buddy, nothing better than more RB240s rollin the streets! hope everything works out for you

well i was a noob but mine runs fine other than when i got the engine it had a little compression loss! but i spent 1200 for rb20 and about 300 more on other stuff and thats it and i have been driving it for over a year with no problems! it can be done cheap if you know what you are doing. i done all mine myself and that keeps the cost down too! there are a lot of good wiring guides on here to help you through.

Now just re-build that Ka, and put some boost to it. Thats a good budget build.
i wasnt saying your particular number was that bogus but some of those first replys were saying upwards of 8 grand ^^^^ just to get it running. i can imagine 3600 as a resonable number. i could have easily spent that had i not had the hook up i do, especially if you have a shop do it. but if you know the right people and do some serious searching then CLOSE to 1500 shouldnt be that far off. im sure your swap looks great and im sorry if i got a little worked up but 8 grand for a simple swap is just ridiculus. i nkow they say time flys when you are having fun putting a skyline motor in your car but im pretty sure in a year i could do about 20 of these swaps. i ran into some problems but once you deal with them once you should have them again....... most of the times..

8k was a price quote that is above what it should take to do the swap CORRECTLY not cutting any corners. This means replacing the timing belt, tensioners, water pump, oil pump, head gasket, clutch. As well as buying mounts, driveshaft, downpipe/exhaust, nismo FPR, intercooler, Fluids, Radiator, Rad hoses.

8k was an approximation for a rb25 swap. yes it can be done cheaper. but always remember the rule

CHEAP, FAST, RELIABLE - pick 2 but u dont get the 3rd

if we are talking a rb20 that can be done correctly for around 3500-4000ish

why would it be 4 grand more for the rb25. the motor is like 900 buck more expencive but the rest doesnt really change all that much. maybe 50 more bucks for the harness.
