Hey guys, I recently inherited a 99 I-30 from my future in-laws and need some tips on improving the gas mileage. I'm a Ford diesel guy (F250 with 6.0L, F350 with 6.4L twin turbo) and am new to the car scene. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Not looking to make anything out of this car other than a daily driver with decent mileage, I've got plenty of power elsewhere  . Just interested in cheap modifications to make it more efficient (my diesels get 10-13mpg... :frown: ) Thanks!

In my experience with the VQ30DE, the best mod to increase fuel efficiency was a cold air intake (I used the Injen Technology intake). I totaled my Isuzu Rodeo 4 days before leaving for Kosovo in 2003. When I came home, I had a 95 Maxima waiting on me. Since I was driving very cautiously, I was getting around 21 MPG's. The first mod I did was the intake and I went from 21 to 25. A 4 mpg increase was amazing to me. As I became more comfortable in driving again, my driving habits changed. Along with that, my MPG's changed. Soon after I noticed I went from 25 to 19. So, if you drive conservatively, it will do you good. If not, you'll lose MPG's. Hope this helps.
