I'm looking for an exhaust, but it has to be inexpensive. My job sucks, so money is an issue. I was looking at a couple on ebay, but I'm not sure how they fit or sound. Does anyone have some experience with ebay exhaust? Also, I'm perfectly fine with buying a used exhaust.

Search was useless

My friend has the exhaust on his Zenki. Sounds sweet with the KA. Pretty quiet, unless you really hammer on it.

some have said that the SSAutochrome exhausts aren't bad either. they have a angled exit like the Apex'i exhausts. the Megan exhaust is a straight exit.

For like $350 you can get an URAS exhaust from http://www.raretrick.com

The Yashio Factory SUS Can is like another $75 more.

This is for a NA s14

I'm not concerned about it being 3" even with a NA. My stock headers will provide enough back pressure. The exhaust can only flow as fast as the smallest part will allow. Well, thats my theory...

With the ebay exhaust it'll most likely be under $300 shipped to my door, everywhere else will be at least $100 more.

I understand the chart, but can you please explain why that happens when you increase the diameter 3/4 of an inch past 2.25 inches. Why is the flow still perfectly straight after you increased it from 1.8 inches?

Becuse in a 1.8 in diameter exhaust the low end is good as the small diameter is ideal for the low pulse rate, but once you get into the higher RPM's there becomes more and more backpressure as the pulses eventually restricting the piston from moving more exhust gases out.

This is what people look for in an exhaust, the top end, which is where larger diameter helps, at the expensive of a little bit of low rpm power.

The 2.25 diameter is pretty much the ideal size that still allows the pulses to come out in an ideal line and draw each other out the quickest

air isnt a a shape it doesnt bounce around its like water it just gets out as fast as possible. i could draw a diagram of an exhaust piping going in circles for all i care and make everyone believe it

dont forget that the area of the pipe cross sectoion increases from 3.97 inches squared with a 2.25 to 7 .065 inches squared with a 3 inch, quite a difference even though it doesnt seem like that large of an increase

oh the formula for that is 3.14xR^2 where R is the radius or half the diamiter

The point of the diagrams wasn't to make anyone believe anything, it was just an explanation. Your exhaust gasses dont all just come out in a random fashion, you can feel the pulses by merely holding your palm out behind your exhaust as it idles.

With all that said, an n/a Integra is going to suffer a LOT more tq loss with a 3" diameter exhaust with their 1.8 liter engine. With our 240's it's not that big of a deal but it is noticeable, and wasteful unless you do plan to go turbo in the near future. I think 2.5' is the best, right now i have a freebie catback from a salvaged yard 240 with a welded-on racing series Magnaflow canister (it can't really be called a muffler, it's more like a resonator ).

Pills, I'd get a BRM, or visit a local (reputable) muffler shop that can make you something. Stay away from the ebay exhausts, if you want your hard-earned money to go further i wouldn't waste it on a questionable no-name catback that will ultimately lose the packing in the muffler after a year and sound like complete crap. Unless you plan to cut off the canister and re-weld something that's better. Then that might actually be a deal. (shrugs)

hasn't it allready been said that 3" exhaust gives more power than 2.5"???????/i've seen a lot of threads sayin that, and always good if you're thinkin about turbo'ing.btw the integra does not have same engine as a 240sx.......so those graphs aren't really gonna do much on a 240 since its a way different engine.(bore/stroke).

I just want want an exhaust that sounds and looks decent. I won't be racing or anything. Even if it just gives me 1/2hp i'll be happy...

Chalk up another vote for muffler shop exhaust with like a magnaflow muffler or something.

A larger exhaust is always better, up until a certain point. For most "small" displacement engines, usually below 6.0l or 400HP, a 2.5in exhaust is sufficient. ANything larger then that and the leading edge(high pressure) of the exhaust pulse starts to weaken. And the trailing edge(vacuum) of the pulse begins to weaken also. And you don't want this to happen. The leading edge actually pulls the trailing edge along. And the greater the difference in pressures between the two edges, the less backpressure you get.

The problem with a 3in+ exhaust is that there is soo much surface area for the exhaust pulse to cover. This in itself causes the pressure difference to weaken

I can't honestly see an increase of 10 whp coming from a 240sx unless it's swapped. I agree with Brien, 2.5" is perfect for N/a. I've had it for over a year on my 240 and have loved it.

Ive had an custom 2.5" exhaust with fart cannon on my car when i got it, and now its got the 3" SSAutochrome on there, and its was worth 4hp on the same dyno. I also have crap pacesetter header on my car.

Hey I just got the SSAutochrome catback exhaust for my S13. I'm gonna put it on tomorrow. I'm going from an Apex'i N1 to the SSAutochrome due to me screwing the Apex'i up while having some fun. The first thing I noticed was the fact that the SSAutochrome was definitely lighter. Mostly because it has no resonator (less weight) and it's stainless steel I'd have to say it's better than the Apex'i right now (I have the original N1 where the canister was the only stainless steel). I'll take some pics of both side by side and let you guys know how I think it is..
