So, I was sitting around pondering about a KA-T motor, reading up on turbos for it.

The main problem I hear with these kits is the turbo is unreliable and even the manufacturer says that they have to be rebuilt ever 20k miles.

I see stock T25 turbos on Ebay for about 125 bucks.

So, could I buy one of these kits and just replace the cheap turbo with a T25?

Any thoughts on the subject?

The manifolds are prone to cracking, and all the parts are generally cheap junk, but hypothetically you could.

On low boost, I'd trust a cheap manifold, but when you're trying for 300HP+, meh, I'd save up for some real parts.

But you're also going to need a bigger turbo than an sr t25.

This idea works. The bottom mount t2 manifolds, especially when heat wrapped, have proven to be fairly reliable. Not saying they wont crack, but a lot of people have had success with them.

Thank you everyone for the good replies.

I guess I should have mentioned that I'm looking at running 11-12psi. I've heard the T25 is good to about 14-15psi.

Would the turbo manifold handle this well? Or would it be pushing the limit?

T25's become a heat pump over 12-13 psi, and shouldnt really be pushed past that. I have ran 14+ psi accidentally on my redtop down a strip once, and my IC and cold pipe were completely heatsoaked when i pulled around. Pretty cold day as well. Id keep it at max, 10-12.

It's actually accurate...which is why it's the best.
