do this but take the guy and a jack with you to see if there isnt more rot that isnt easily visible, and if the car isnt copletely garbage then buy it and go through the above steps and have yourself a nice 240 and for dirt cheaplivinglegend2100 wrote:find someone who can weld and buy them a couple cases of beer. im sure they wont mind cutting out the rust and welding a couple patches in
i wanna know where you guys find these 500 / 1000 dollar decent shape / good shape 240's at Cuz so far there just lookin like myths to me like big foot or UFO's. people talk about em but ive never seen one.heartofaskyline wrote:ok so you take your 200 dollar car and fix the rust. 1k for rust repair, and now you have a 1200 dollar car. when you could just buy a 500 dollar 240 from the south and ship it too yourself for 300.
im with him, sure anything is fixable but dont just jump for the first car you seegregfarz78 wrote:$300 to ship a car from the south to michigan? I'd love to know what year you guys are living in b/c its probably more like $700+
I'd save up a little bit more money find a clean shell for around $1000 with less rust I know its hard in michigan but have patience
and where in the hell do you get $1k for that. you are getting into the price range of full underbody restoration. Rust can be fixed for a little. 200 for any 240 is a steal, unless it was in a firey blaze.heartofaskyline wrote:ok so you take your 200 dollar car and fix the rust. 1k for rust repair, and now you have a 1200 dollar car. when you could just buy a 500 dollar 240 from the south and ship it too yourself for 300.

All i have ever seen is 1500$ or so pices of s*** and anything under 1000 is a rusted out pile of crap thats looks like it was use for crash testing or was butchered and put togeathere by DR frankenstein.
im refering to s13's btw
Yes yes, i'm thinking about doing that more and more. Its worth it, to be in michgan, and for 200 bucks, i'm not gonna left this fly by. If i cant find someone to weld it, ill just teach myself. I've did alot of research on it, and its been done. Just by a welder (practice first of course), get some POR-15 and Resto Grip, and I should be fine. I think the thickness of the metal was like 1/9 or 1/16. I forget.hpmachine wrote:Screw all of your stupid answers. BUY A WELDER. get some scrap metal and teach yourself how to mig weld. Work at it for a few months and you'll be good enough to tackle most of the rust repair you'll need to do on that car. Why pay someone 1000$ to fix something, when you could buy the MIG for 600 and do it yourself. Then you can be the dude charging everyone else. It's valuable experience that will last you a life time. Then you can buy your 200$ 240sx and fix it for the price of the metal. Its win win win.
