'Been chasing this gremlin since I bought the car 6 months ago.

Classic bad idle with poor performance especially below 2000 rpm. Failed the smog test with excess HC and NOX.

Poor gas mileage.

Cleaned and cleaned the MAF and throttle body. Cleaned contacts, etc.

Three injectors testing at 48, 19, and 18 ohms respectively.

(Suspect the injectors)

Could coil packs or plugs be in play? Is there a non invasive test?

Does not feel like knock sensors - based on experience with my wife's J30 where we had to replace them.

Have not read the engine codes - assume would have to take it to a shop for this.

SO THE BIG QESTION IS:

If it is the injectors, how can I be pretty sure of this before tearing into the engine.

Thanks for the thoughts,

Don

HC is likely due to the injectors, the NOX is probably due to EGR.. Either way youll want to pull the plenum off and clean everything and replace those injectors...

The car runs OK with 1 bad injectors, crummy with 2 bad injectors, and like total crap with 3 bad ones...

First check Eng. codes its very simple. You can find out how to check engine codes in this forum. Same with the injector issues. The range is 10-14 ohms so anything out of this range is a faulty injector.

10-14 is overly broad for OEM convenience. Limit is probably closer to 11.8 to 12.2 before performance degrades as measured by power balance test.

Always examine and clean the injector harness contacts and remeasure and measure injectors without harness before condemming individual units.

Always put a new battery in VOM to increase measurement accuracy.

The only way the resistance can change is for bad gasoline to attack the injector coil insulation creating turn shorts or actually eat some of the copper wire diameter away.

Always use BG 44K a tankfull prior to final determination- changing injectors.

Thanks, guys. A little warmer weather and I will launch into this. Will research checking the engine codes here.

THanks,

Don
