im thinking of changeing my cooling setup to include the chasebays tucked radiator and running the clutch fan. i was wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these? my current setup is just a plain ole cx racing alluminium rad and 2 12 fals with a low temp thermostat. it runs fine in stop and go traffic, but on the highways it will creep up to about 190-205 degrees. which im not exactly comfortable with.

You couldn't run the clutch fan with our radiator. It wouldn't cool as good as our 8" fans mounted on the front of the radiator as pushers. Our setup would cool just as good if not better as yours now. Not to mention freeing up a lot of space.

It sounds to me like you have your fans polarity switched. Usually the issue would be in stop and go traffic, not while you're driving.

How much do your 8in fans flow? ever tested them with a RB swap? they just run very hot and are hard to cool usually...

Might be a bit off topic but I'll ask anyway..

Will the tucked radiator fit with the ac condensor still installed?

That's not entirely true. The problem is the design of the front end on the S13 and improper ducting of air combined with most guys blocking the entire front end opening with an intercooler. I have never had cooling trouble in my S14, even with a stock 140k mile oem S14 radiator installed.

The problem the OP is describing leads me to believe that he isn't getting enough air through that radiator at speed. Bottom line , there is WAY more air available for that radiator CFM-wise driving 50-60mph than the fans provide.. Properly ducting air to ensure it can get to the radiator and is forced to pass through is crucial.

x2 on the bad airflow through the S13. My situation is exactly the same with the heating up on the highway and not in town. 100% ok on the wiring for FAL 412 pullers. 75-80mph on the highway just creates too much heat for the system to keep up with, even with most proper ducting if you're using a S14 radiator like I am. 185-190 for me even in 20F right now with winter here.

But Shocker's got it down just right. Not to mention more and more people lately.

There is an example of the style of radiators a local shop (upgarage) uses for their rb swaps. It tucks im the firewall and can fit a clutch fan with shroud, but thewy mention it is a custom radiator. If chasebay's radiator are anything a like (i didnt look) i would say you can utilize the clutch fan. There are more examples of this rad in an s13 but too lazy to pull them up.

We've tried. They don't work with the clutch fan. However, we're working on it ;)

yeah, you could but the radiator is way too far away from the fan to be running without a shroud. I am sure you realize this but wanted to post that for the other guys that may be watching this. It sure is a nice fit though.

why not just keep whatever radiator you have, swap bolt the fan onto the back side of the clutch fan, bend back the core support, slot or re-drill your rad mount holes (top and bottom) about 3/4 inch in my case, trim the fan so ti doesn't hit on your pulley and call it a day? That is what i did and it wayyyyyyy out cools the dual FALs that i had with my radiator before (griffin in my case)

Rb20det on HCR32 xmemeber with stock mounts and insulators, slotted engine mount brackets on both sides about .25" slid motor back. Got new Koyo stock replacement S13 Ka rad for mine. Trimmed upper lip off of rad core support, pulled rad as close to core as possible, bottom insulator and holes are left alone. R32 oem rad shroud, trimmed and cut to fit S13 rad. S14/13 Ka viscous fan clutch and S14/13 Ka fan with back blades trimmed to clear crank pulley.

Looks like oem fit with Rb2x, dont know how it performs havent pushed her hard yet, but it blows like a b**** at idle.
I was tired of electric fans and all the extra wiring needed and controllers, plus on of the fan's wiring rubbed and shorted out.
Goal was off the shelf parts with minimal trimming or fab work, oem look and fit, and functionality.

U can find my pics on here last pages
