Car: 1991 240sx with 93 motor bored out

I have a 93 240sx with 167000 on the body and 40000 on the engine it has a new altinator and the battery holds a charge when charged BUT the alt will not charge the battery any ideas what is causing this ??

Have you checked all the fuses? How do you know the Altinator is good? Was it tested? are the belts tight? Are the battery and altinator connections clean and tight?

Most charging problems can be found by doing the above.

I had a similer problem on my 89' hatchand i checked everything /\ he said and it still wouldn't charge.

Me and my uncle ended up checking the red/white-white wires coming out of the alternators plug, it ended up being cut (red/white) and wasn't making connection so we soddered it and taped it up. And now it works fine and the battery is keeping its charge.

same thing happened to me and like he said the two wires coming out of the plug o the alt. were messed up fixed them and fixed my problem

well i got an 89 piggy i changed my alternator which was used but still works fine, my battery light came on right after i replaced it, its charging myy battery fine but the light never turns off if im on the freeway it dims but when i stop it brightens, before my old one gave out it never once gave me the battery light, anyone know what it could be? sorry for the tread jack. PeeP!

It is probably one of the smaller wires on the plug at the alternator going bad.
