My 2009 Murano with the subject iPod interface will not charge my iPod Touch (2G), however it is otherwise functional. I brought this up when I was at the dealer for service today and they produced a Nissan Service Bulletin NTB09-003 dated January 9, 2009 which explains that the problem is due to a design change made by Apple. The following iPod models will not charge when connected via the interface cable:

iPhone 3GiPod Nano - 4th GenerationiPod Touch - 2nd Generation

The reason is that these models charge from a 5V source instead of a 12V source and different pins are used for charging in the dock connectors of these models. I assume that going forward, this will be the standard for all new iPod models.

I assumed this was the case because my daughter's 80GB iPod charges just fine.

So, anyone aware of any sort of adapter? There are cigarette lighter adapters that provide a standard USB connector for charging of these iPod models with their standard USB dock connector cables, but I am not aware of anything that will merge the two functions.

I read the service bulletin and apparently there are solutions:

Welcome to NICOclub, thanks for visiting the Murano Forum, glad to have you here!

This has been an issue with several of the Nissan/Infiniti models, at this point I am not aware of any adapters that will allow for the charging, but please let me know if anyone hears of something.

After reviewing the three available charging adapters noted in the Service Bulletin, I have decided on the Scosche passPORT available on Amazon.com for $24.95

This item, is also listed at the Apple online store (same price) and with good reviews except for certain iPod interfaces. Read the details about compatibility here: http://scosche.com/products/productID/1667

My Scosche passPORT arrived from Amazon.com 2 days ago. It works fine with my iPod Touch (2G), that is it charges now as it should.

My comments on the adapter:

1) IMO, the connector fits more loosely into my dock connector than I would like, so I have some concern that it will disconnect from the iPod while driving. Note that this has not happened to me, but I plan to take some care as to how I leave the interface cable, adapter, and iPod aligned in the console.

2) The adapter will not fit with my iPod Touch case in place. I have the Griffin Technology Elan Form hard case, so I just slip the bottom portion off when using it with the adapter.

3) The addition of a second component in the circuit (iPod Touch+adapter+cable) makes the whole assembly a little floppy so I suspect some care will be required when using the charging adapter to keep it all connected.
