Looking at my receipt. It says I was charged $42 for R12 evacuation. Is that normal?

Probably.. Since they have to completely get all the R12 out in order for the R134 to work.

Sure. My guess is it took them half hour to do it(since thats what the EPA requires)

The question is how much did they give you for each ounce of R-12 they pulled out? It all gets recycled by the machine. They probably charge $3 or more for each ounce. Got into an argument about that with a shop manager once. I don't mind paying shop labor for good work. I don't mind paying book time, even if it's twice what the guy needs. But don't charge me material cost to put back what was there to begin with!

The problem is AC oil how much to dissassemble the entire AC system and flush the incompatible R12 oil out so that the R134a oil can be used. 99% skip this step.......... to save the 4 hours.

As I said run away fast when anyone suggest a cheap conversion.......they are counting on selling you a new compressor SOON!

When you come in talking cheap they assume you only care about maybe getting thru THIS SUMMER.

Still have my as built 15.5 year old evaporator in service......although the compressor was changed at 235k.........annual AC maintenance and frequent oil changes........instead of drive it til it breaks
