Hi guys,

Its that time where my automatic transmission fluid needs changing on my 03 coupe.

Im going to take it to my mechanic and use nissan matic J as recommended.

I heard something in the forum about flushing the transmission fluid and having problems after?? Were they referring to just draining the oil out of the transmission or completely flushing it with a solution when encountering the problem?

Im planning just to drain the old oil out then refilling the transmission with new fresh oil will that be a problem?

I've never heard of a "flush fluid" for a transmission so I don't know what you mean about that.

However, if your mechanic follows Infiniti procedures and uses the approved fluid, I doubt that you will have any negative effects. If you're really worried about it, have Infiniti do it. It might cost a little more but it will probably give you a little more peace of mind. I saw a thread here where a guy recently spend $7000 on a new transmission, including labor.

I was about to say... Are you under a rock or something. I know the penzoil 10 min places do it for about 100bux... I had my lexus done at about 100k miles. but it should be done every 60k I think....

The issue with flushing is only applicable if the transmission has heavy wear an metal shavings (typical of neglected transmissions).

If the transmission has been flushed at every fluid change, then I don't think there is much of a problem. If the transmission has been neglected, then a simple drain and refill is more advised. The last thing you want to do is flush around metal shavings and contaminants around the internals. Who knows where they'll land.

how many miles on the car/transmission?

how often have you been changing the fluid?

a properly serviced transmission should never need flushing.

If its been longer then 60k miles on the transmission since the last flush I'd just leave the dirty fluid in there. I change my fluid every 20k miles at the dealership for $149 each time. I'm a little harder on my car then most people though. Anywhere between 40 and 60 k miles is acceptable transmission service intervals.
