I have recently purchased my new toy - 05' G35 Coupe. It is also my first japaneese car, but to be honest, I am VERY excited about it!!! I had always have german cars running only and only on Synthetic oil. I know that most of Infinitis run most likely on 5W30 mineral oil. And here are my questions:Can I safetly change at 52K miles to synthetic and should I do it???And what do you think about using engine flush before the oil change?? I have never done it but I read, that it should be done if changing from mineral, but from other hand - lot's of bad opinions about all this flush idea.Thx for all your help!!!

I am in sort of the same situation, I am probably going to get into a new 08 G35 and I was wondering should I change to mobil1 or royal purple right there before I drive off the lot? Or should I break it in with whatever oil is in there, point to some good breaking in threads?

The problem with flushing the engine that has been run on regular oil for that long is that you might flush out some deposits that have acted as seals, so you may run into leaks. Now how much of a factor that is and how much of a real problem it is on newer cars, I'm not sure. But the only times you need to flush the engine is if you switch from a regular oil to a pure synthetic, like Royal Purple. Mobil1 for instance, you don't need to flush the engine.

i did that with a 95 buick . it had 50k and after about 4 mos. it developed oil leaksaround the oil pan and rocker covers.

i would recommend staying with dino oil an this one.

I heared many opinions about the risk with changing from mineral oil to synthetic. Yesterday I called infiniti dealer and they told me that synthetic oil can be used in my car! I really believe in benefit of running on syntec, but how come infiniti dealer is saying that it's fine and there is so many people having trouble with their engine after doing it ?????????????????? I do not want to mess up my car !!!

You're right, there is at least one positive opinion, in fact there's 2 here . I told you the possible consequences of flushing an engine at that mileage. You can safely go to Mobil1 and the likes without flushing your engine, you just need to be careful when switching to something like Royal Purple or AMSOIL.

Or at least that's the most current thought on switching to synthetics that I'm aware of.

also, if you are going to believe stuff you hear or read on the internet about Mobil 1 not being 'fully synthetic', then take the time to call Mobil 1 and talk to somebody there. That's what I did. Check out their website and see their advice on flushing, switching..etc...again, I take it as another opinion.

I don't have anything against Mobil 1 (I think it is really great), but is there a big difference between different synt oil brands?? At the service that I use for maitnence, they use Pennzoil Platinum 5W40.
