Yesterday when I was looking underneath my 1991 nissan hb, I noticed fluid was leaking out thru the switch. I called the local dealer and they verified over time, they will have fluid leaking out even thought it is still in working condition. My two questions are first, is the fill plug for the transmission higher, lower or the same level as the reverse light switch and second can i switch out the reverse light switch with the fluid in the transmission or do i have to drain it?

I believe it is higher than the fluid level.

when i pulled out my reverse light switch transmission oil came gushing out.try parking it on a slight hill so all the oil will drain back. And whem you place a new one on or the original use some thread sealer.

Yeah just get the truck on a ramp or incline to put fluid opposite of switch and like above use teflon tape on threads to make it fluid proof. Stuff is a buck a roll at any parts store.
