Hello, sorry for the stupid question, but how do you do this? Change out the light bulbs in the license plate area on the trunk? I don't see any screw holes or anything looking from the bottom up. Do I just take a flat head and pry the clear lenses off? I'm afraid to do anything stupid before I ask here first. Thanks!

Not a stupid question - it is always best to ask for enough information to avoid breaking something!

This light bulb procedure is described on page 8-24 of your 2003 M45 Owners Manual ... came with the car. If you do not have one anymore, this is a free download from http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infiniti web site.

BTW, in most cases with the smaller lights on the M45 (not the headlights, of course! ), what you need is a small screw-driver and some cloth to prevent the screw-drive blade from mucking up the lens. In the case of the license plate, I think this is accessed from inside the trunk (from what I can tell from the Owners Manual), but not sure.

Isnt there just a small screw that holds the clear lens in place? I just changed my plate frame a few weeks ago and I think I remember there being a screw for each side.Cheers

Sorry, I was wrong. I just installed my LED tails and verified that you need to remove the deck lid liner and probably the light housing. This should only take 5-10 minutes for the average person to do.Cheers

Isn't that a long way around to get to the license plate lights, though? The original question was about that, I think!

I looked in the owner's manual on page 8-24. It only shows how to remove the bulb but not the lense around it. If I have to remove the liner, is it difficult to remove those clips? I would rather not have to go to the dealer for something little like this. It looks like I just take a small screwdriver and pry them open on both sides. Is this correct?

I think this is because this lens is not removable in this manner ... the bulb removal in the diagram shows it "from the inside", right?

Since I have not done this, I would have to say: I don't know. Sorry!

Well, I suppose you could try it, but I am not sure the diagram implies that this lens is removal in that manner. It does for others though, so this may be one of those other types where you get access from the inside of the trunk ... I'll look at my 2003 M45 when I am out for lunch today and see if it is clearer to me then.

Z,Sorry to confuse the situation, I was referring to removing the liner to get the plate lights. I was only referring to the tail lights because I was in the area and took a peak, thats all.D

jwong77, To remove the liner I believe that there is just a bunch of push clips that you will just need a small screw driver to remove. I hope I helped even if just a little bit.D

Remove the upper trunk liner completely and you can access the bulbs from behind. I used a needle nosed plier to turn the bulbs (about a half turn) and pull them out. Reverse to install.

I replaced mine with PIAA LEDs and am happy with the result. (I have an extra set. If someone is interested, contact me)

Sure thing!

It looks pretty easy to remove the upper trunk liner to get to the license plate bulbs. Just a bunch of clips that look like they can be pried out, like has been mentioned by others.

You should not have any difficulty getting to them!

EDIT: Looks like you already did. Good!

I don't know how to post the pic but I sent bag302 a copy of the picture that I took last night, hopefully he can get it posted. It looks real nice and much brighter than the stock setup! Thanks everyone for pitching in with the help!
