I searched the forums, and could only find information on later model Pathfinders that appeared to have a different fan configuration than my older QX4.

I am attempting to change the serpentine belt on my 98 QX4. The one that drives the alternator, etc. I cannot find the right bolts to adjust the tensioner pulley so that I can take up slack on the new belt. I have found the long bolt that runs from the top right behind the tensioner pulley, and appears to be the correct one to use to adjust. I can't find the other bolt(s) necessary to accomplish this. The belt had recently broke right after I started up the car. It had been squealing on start up and for the first mile or so, for several weeks, prior to breaking.

Any pointers, and a diagram for my model if available, would be greatly appreciated!

Check out your factory service manual at http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/ for diagrams. In short, you have to loosen the center nut on the pulley before you can adjust it's position.

Your idler pulley bearings may be shot (causing your squeal) so check for any roughness or play in the bearings while you have the pulley out.

Thanks for the tip on adjusting the tensioner pulley on my QX4! I had suspected that may be necessary (loosening the nut on the pulley), but had a heck of a time loosening it! That tip and directing me to the factory service manual, made finishing the job a snap! Thanks again!

You're very welcome! I would certainly check into the idler pulley bearings if your squealing or any howling returns.
