Been a while since I started a new thread, feels gooooooooood.

So im going to be installing my new EBC Ultimax rotors today, and something just dawned on me. I installed new pads about 5-6 months ago so they should still be in good shape and I wont be replacing them. Burred in real well to the stock rotors, no issues. Question is are they going to burr in properly to the new rotors? Should I do the typical burr in procedure or hit it a little harder? The rotors come with a black coating on them that wears off of the contact surface after a while, think I should buff that off a bit so the pads can get right to the contact surface?

What does NICO say?

Typicially you would replace the pads at the same time. They may burr in fine but there is a chance they wont. I wouldn't buff off any of the coating. You may create tiny knicks etc that may cause issues in the future.

Yeah I wanted to do the whole nine back when I purchased the pads but couldnt afford it then. HAD to get the pads at the time, they were shot. I think Im just going to go for it and pray for the best. Do you think I should rub off some of the black coating on the rotors?

Best thing you can do is when you take the calipers off, take a look at the pads and the rotors that are currently on the car and see if there are any grooves or wear lines/marks. If there is I would suggest getting new pads.

I wouldn't bother taking that coating off.

Will do. I know the rotors are now completely shot but I have a strong feeling that the pads are immaculate.

Thanks for the input. Wish me luck!

Post pics of your rotrs and pads if you want then we can all take a look and offer more opinions. Rotors are shot that quickly eh? How many miles/kms on the car?

Id say the same thing. There is no promise that the current pads will burr properly. I ran into the samething problem on my pickup when I had to get new rotors for them but the pads were only 6 months old. Luckily I had a place around here smooth out the rotor after it had a groove in them and then replaced the pads which I should have done anyways. Id say just take a look at the pads. If they still look good and dont have any wear, then go for it.

Just finished. Pads looked pretty good to me. Everything installed well, had a tad bit of trouble with the rear though because the old rotors were so dang rusted. Took a few chips out of my mallet smacking them off.

So I did a few stomps on the gas and a few stomps on the brake and I wasnt getting much bite. No noise at all though...until my last stomp. Brakes immediately bite and I hear the ever annoying screech of death. I was literally pulling into my condo so I get out and see that I had JUST started to get through the black coating, hence the immediate bite and screech. I think im going to take it easy on them and not even try to burr them in again until all of the black coating is gone. Maybe just drive backroads all day tomorrow to wear it off and then hit it hard tomorrow night.

Thanks for the input guys.

Oh and at QR, I have about 52.000 miles. BUT the reason the rotors are in such bad shape is because when I was getting my service done during my lease the stealership resurfaced them EVERY time I brought the car in. They were ridiculously thin, still warped, and rusted out. When I was removing them with my mallet HUGE rusted chunks were flying off. I''l try and post pics tomorrow of the new guys....SO SEXY. I also put my summer wheels back on so I had huge boner when I was done.
