Im going to be changing the rotors and pads on a Z32 but this will be the first time im going to be doing this. What are all the things i need to know before doing this? Would i also need replacement bolts/clips at all? Are bleeding the brakes something that would have to be done?

Your brakes are the most important thing on the car for safety, if you have never done it before or really have no clue, have someone there to help you that has done it before.

That being said, yes, get replacement pins and hardware for the calipers. No, you do not have to bleed the brakes, but you do have to push the pistons back in. Don't dangle calipers by the hoses, it could damage the hose.

Make sure you put in the right year, these changed from 92/93 years, this is just to give you an idea what needs to be changed.

No you don't have to change the hardware, the parts are cheap but they also aren't prone to failure, if yours look bad replace if not, reuse.

Alright thanks for the information. Ive done a lot of work on most other things around the car besides brakes. Actually i remember ive done work on drum brakes a long time ago but only twice. Just making sure that everything wil be done right.

The calipers are held on with two bolts, you'll need a 19mm socket or wrench. Once they're out just swing the calipers out of the way and swap the rotor, remember to not let the caliper hang by the brake line as it can damage or tear the line. Support it by resting it on a stack of wood, jackstand or similar.
Put the caliper back on and change the pads out as per the service manual: http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/ ... r&slide=12

And to get better access jack up the entire front end so you can turn the wheel you're working on outward. Remember jackstands and DONT jack it up by the sills or radiator support, ONLY jack it up by the engine crossmember or differential when using a garage jack. Depending on your jack that might mean you have to make som makeshift ramps of 2*4 to get the jack far enough under.

Im working on a 93 NA 300ZX. I already took off the caliper, pads, and rotor but i cant get the 4 pistons to compress in. Unless they screw in? Ive been working on the one damn side for 3 hours because everything was stuck and have 3 more to go. Anyone have tips to get the pistons in or if theres a special tool for 4 pistons?

Use the old pads and a C clamp, push in one side at a time. If they really will not move, you may need to replace the pistons. Also, make sure the master cylinder cap is off.

If you try and push one piston in at a time, the other will pop out.

I tried pressing two pistons in at the same time with the old pads and c clamp but they only moved around one milimeter. Yup i also had the cap off before i attempted it. Ill see what i can do today.

You already had a thread started on this topic. I've merged them to avoid any confusion.

If there is still issues pushing them in, take the caliper off, use compressed air to pop them out. Buy a new seal kit and try emery cloth to smooth the cylinder walls and pistons.

If worse case scenario, the make caliper hones and get new pistons.

It would be a lot less work to buy loaded calipers from rock auto, or upgrade to larger brakes.

I had better luck with those piston compressors that push all pistons out at the same time. Might be wort a shot, they don't cost much
